Progressives and Cleaning Primer Pockets

Well I'm confused with who is mad at who but what's new

Not mad, but thought Idano was a bit rough on us for not cleaning primer pockets most of the time. :)

As for the theory that primer crud "builds up" I don't subscribe to it. BUT ya know what, I never did a test to see if I could notice a difference! Who has?

Yes it does after awhile. That is why I clean them only every once in a while (once in a long while) for range ammo. :)

Hey I didn't want to make any one mad I just wanted to shake everyone up a bit and make them think. To be totally honest I don't know if cleaning the primer pocket has any effect on improving your odds as to whether you won't have a misfire or not. Just like factory ammunition I have bought boxes of primers that would have one or two primers not fire for no reason; not often but I have had it happen a couple times in 30 yrs. To me cleaning the primer pockets is just following the procedure to the letter and part of maintaining a routine. Too often many of our new reloaders and some of our old will skip steps either by accident or to increase throughput and sometimes these missed steps accumulate into a serious problem. Unfortunately progressive presses tend to encourage or should I say make it easy for people not to take the time and put in the due diligence to correctly inspect brass, properly design their load within the variance of their powder measure or not check the dispense regularly. Most people do a good job but it is those few that end up having problems that gives our hobby a bad eye in those that don't reload. Think about it why don't we trust other people's reloads? Please just be safe and be consistent.:D
