I was looking at my gock 20sf the other day and an idea crept into my brain housing group. I'm thinking of cutting the grip to take g29 size. I've contacted Lone Wolf Distributors and asked if the sold a frame with a full size slide and compact grip. The sales rep informed me that they do not but the was a couple places I could send my firearm to that kind of customization. Otherwise I could look it up and do it myself. The rep was great.

I know this isn't a new concept. I can't get it out of my head though. I just dont know if I want to build from an 80% frame or if I want to attempt it on my existing 20.

Any thoughts?

I've done it to a G17 to take the G19 mags. Also modified a few Kahrs to the "covert" configuration. It is a good modification and happens often.

And, no. If done correctly it doesn't look like a "hack job"

Full sized guns are best in my opinion, it's also true that the grip is the hard part to conceal.

That said, it is really easy to screw it up if you haven't done it before. Get an experianced smith to do it. You'll be much happier.

Glock will sell you a stripped frame if you don't like it. See if you can try one out before you commit.

It looks like Bowie Tactical charges $85 for the service.

I really don't want to send a firearm off and feel it is ridiculous ( my personal belief) to have to fill out paperwork to get it back from my LGS if I drop it off for their smith to work on. Even though I'm sure Bowie Tactical and Robar do top notch work.

I appreciate the advice. How am I suposed to become experienced if I let someone else do it? I'm leaning more toward seeing if Glock has any scrap frames for sale as you suggested. As far as happier, I think I'd be happier being able to say I did the work myself. Having said that I may go with doing a complete build using an 80% frame from Polymer 80 and buying a top end off ebay. I'm actually pretty excited about this project either way.

This is where those 80% lowers shine.. Hack em up and try again. You're still not out the $$ a genuine stripped frame costs.

Glocks are easy. I did one years ago when the Clinton era hi cap magazine ban was in effect. Chopped a 19 down to 26 size butt. How good it look is up your patience and skill. Mostly patience. Whether it is a good idea on a 10mm is a totally different question. The Glock 20 is much softer shooting than many 10s, but I would want to shoot a 29 first to get a sense of what I would end up with.

I have shot the 30 (45 acp) however I dont think it would give me an accurate means of judging the end result of my particular project would turn out. Mostly due to the longer heavier slide. The part that is keeping me from just firing up the dremel and making that first cut is the fact that I have the knowledge (through reading and watching any video I can find) however, the practical experience is where I fall short. I know that in order to get that practical experience I need to actually grab the dremel and just get it done. Its stepping out of my comfort zone and if I mess it up it becomes a very expensive lesson and i can't afford to replace the frame if I screw it up.

There was a wild and crazy me once that wouldn't have thought it through and would have just chopped it at the bottom ridge of the last finger groove and figured it out from there. Perhaps it's time to take the step outta my comfort zone.

Mark it off with painters tape and take your time. Glock frames and Faux Glock frames are so cheap that I would absolutely consider those as an option before chopping up a factory frame. Large frame isn’t as common, but the price jump is nonexistent because a Glock reciever is a Glock reciever all day every day with very little exception to that rule. Dagger frames are very often BOGO around patriotic holidays and major holidays. Easter is not far off but Presidents Day is here.

Does Glock not have enough models of the same basic pistol design that you can't find something off the shelf that will make you happy? If you do decide to hack the gun I would give up all hope of ever selling it for more than a few pennies.

I gave up all hope on selling it the moment I bought it really. Plus no, Glock does not have anything to my knowledge in the configuration I'm looking for. Although IMO they should maybe bring one out.
