Project Gun?

I want to learn a little home gunsmithing and I don't want to kill any of my existing rifles, so I think i want to buy a .22 to practice on, most likely a beater boltgun. What would be some good things to do with hand tools and files?

I'm thinking
1. Sling Studs
2. New Sights
3. Rust Removal
4. Blueing
5. New stock finish
6. Sand out scratches
7. Steam out Dents

Anything Else????

I want to end up with a fairly accurate open sight squirrel gun
