Promag thoughts.

From my experience some models work good, some do not. The AR models are crap, LCPs are good and the ones you mention I'm not sure about because I don't own that gun. You just have to try them out yourself and make sure to keep up with the return policy just in case.

I never get Promag magazines for any gun. I did years back. I'll usually go factory or a quality after-market supplier.

I have avoided them like the plague except on one occasion when there were no other viable options. I picked up a couple for my Star 30M. After tapping in the dimple at the top side of the mag a little they have been 100%. It was apparent to me that they couldn't have tested these mags on an actual 30M, or they just didn't care.

ProMag does make one really good mag, but it is for a rifle. They make a 20 round mag for the HK SL8 which only comes with factory 10 round mags due to import restrictions. ProMag nailed this one. Build quality is up to HK quality and they have been 100% reliable.

It just goes to show that they do have the potential to do good work.

Another "sometimes good, sometimes bad" experience for me.

P220 and Kel-Tec P32 magazines have been awesome.

Polymer Mini-14 mags and Ruger P95 mags were super garbage though.

Well I finally had a chance this weekend to run my pro mags in my S&W 469.

First of all, they look nearly identical to the factory magazines, save for the length.

The followers have no discernible difference and the body of the mag is very well crafted, TIG welded steel. Being brand new, the springs were pretty tight, and loading the last few rounds of each was a pain in the thumbs. Because of this, I was expecting some double feeds. Anyway, weather and work interfered and I wasn't able to shoot them until this weekend.

First up was the 15 rounder, loaded with TulAmmo.
Started out with slow, controlled fire, about one round per second. After the mag was empty, slide locked back as it should. The mag ran flawlessly.
Then I loaded up the 20 round mag ( filled with WWB), dropped the slide and continued firing, about 1 round per second. 20 rounds later, slide locked back, the mag ran flawlessly.

Loaded each mag again with WWB. Went for some double taps. Each mag ran flawless.
Loaded up again for some rapid fire mag dumps. Not a single hiccup.

No failures of any sort. Granted, three sets from each mag isn't any qualitative study on how well the mags would operate, but they beat the expectations i had based on the thoughts on other pro mag products. These, however, worked perfectly. I'm pleased so far. I'll run at least another five sets or so through each prior to carrying them, though, just to be on the safe side. But it's doubtful the 20 rounder will ever see daily carry. The 15 rounder fits in my Blackhawk mag pouch right next to my Leatherman Surge, so it'll get carried.

i have 2 of their 7 round mags and a 10 round mag for my m-43 firestar 9mm.
my fatherinlaw has 2 for his bersa thunder .380.
we have never had any miss feeds or any othere problems with any of them.
i am about to order two for my bersa thunder 40 pro in the next week or two.
until i see somthing that changes my mind, pro mag is all that i will order.

I bought two for my Mini 30 and have never had one feed more than four or five rounds between malfunctions. I'd give them away but none of my enemies own a mini 30.

You got lucky. The ones I bought wouldn't even fit in the rifle.:fire:

First time I shot mine, I just ran 13 rounds through each and they worked...then the next range session they were jamming.

The quality seems to depend entirely on what gun the mag is for.

Every few years, I give their BHP mags another try... and I have still yet to get a satisfactory one. I keep them loaded with inert ammo (for weight) to use for practicing reload drills, so I guess they're not a complete loss.

However, their mags for the Bersa Thunder and Ruger LCP have been flawless.

So then, why can't they get Hi Power mags right?

Mec-Gars are pretty good for the most part, but people talk them up a bit too much like they are the end all.

Well, speaking of Hi Power mags, they are the end all.

A buddy had two factory mags and one Promag for his Sig P226 9mm. The Promag was the only one that kept failing to feed. I told him "I think I can fix this Pro-Mag" and proceeded to smash it flat with a claw hammer on a concrete floor. I then bought him a Factory P226 magazine and told him it was a early birthday present.

Stay away from Pro-Mags.

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

I always buy MecGar or factory mags. However, when I bought a Sig P228 from CDNN several years ago it came with four Promags. I also bought a factory Sig mag for carry, but used the Promags as range mags. Guess what? They all worked flawlessly. When I was taking a combat hangun course, I switched out all the mag springs with Wolff +5%, and deburred the plastic followers with a Dremel. They all worked just as well as factory mags, and I wouldn't hesitate to use them for carry.

It's Mec Gar or Factory when it's for SD/HD.

Eagle for range.

ProMag - not even for range. If you happen to get one that works for you, more power to you and G_D Bless.

I would never buy them personally but I have rehabed many for people who did buy them and have shot them as range mags without issue after correcting their fundemental issue.

The bodys and the followers are not bad IMHO. They are not the best but they are not as bad as people make them out to be. The weak point of all promags is the springs. They suck. If you replace them with +5% springs from wolff most of the time these piece of poop mags will turn into serviceable range mags.

People did this with their P225 mags when Sig said they where going to stop making them and the price of Sig fatory P225 mags jumped to $50 a pop. People were very sucessful in creating working range mgs from promags.
