note to mods... I dont know if this belongs here or some where else on the board or If you will allow it because it is not really gun related. I understand you have rules. What you decide to do with it I will understand. You do have a tough job.

NUTCASE, PSYCHO "PREACHER" COMING TO TENNESSEE TO PROTEST AT FUNERALS FOR TENNESSEANS KILLED IN IRAQ. Fred Phelps, a so-called Baptist preacher, is coming to Tennessee. He and his cult will be holding protests on August 27 at funerals of two soldiers killed in Iraq.

where they protested in Ill.

They have signs that read "thank god for dead soldiers" and thank god for IED" Imporvised Explosive divice I.E road side bombs

and they will be in Ashland City saturday to protest at the Natinal Guard Base where the funeral will be held.

I am so mad I can not think or type at the same time. Please excuse any grammer or spelling errors.

From Wikipedia - Phelps mourned the fall of Hussein's regime and has consistently criticized the invasion of Iraq, citing, "IRAQ=USA=SODOM" and keeping a toll on his webpage celebrating the death of every American soldier killed and pronouncing loyalty to Iraq.

I certainly hope that they don't show on the 27th because I'd hate for someone to end up going to jail for beating them to a pulp.

BTW This belongs in Political instead of General.

I'm whole-heartedly against US intervention in Iraq, but this is just sleazy trash. :barf:

Anyone who has any regard for the sanctity of life and God as the author thereof wouldn't do this. Phelps is not only despicable, he's a hypocrite.

It does not matter what you think of the war, this is just wrong.
I hope the people of Tennessee communicate effectively with Mr Phelps.

I think the one link mentioned above put it best. "Phelps and his band of christian impersonators."

What a complete waste of skin.

This "church" is to Christians what Fundamentalist terrorists are to Islam.

In other words, they are extremists whose beliefs do not reflect the norm in any way.

A buddy of mine's brother is in the unit the fallen soldiers were in. We suggested to him that the unit contact the sheriffs in the respective counties and suggest that these cultest scum be given a site to protest 10 feet off the road.

Of course this 10 ft. strip along the road would be used to park the unit's numerous 5 ton trucks.

For the safety of the cultists a few deputies would be posted to ensure no one crossed into (or out of) the protest area.

Considerin how high emotions are running in these counties if something like this isn't done there's a good chance that the honor guard may not be the only ones discharging firearms during the funeral.

I have heard on the radio today that several people would like to open a can of wup-a$$ on them.

i hope the 21 gun salute is aimed at those protesting morons. oh and of course that the blanks be replaced with real ammo of course. :D

Yeah well, you oughta know what it's like to live in the same area he does. I see his stupid followers everytime I go to town. I will say though, the funeral thing is not new although the war protest is. He usually sticks to gays. He's got a multitude of health problems. He won't be around much longer.

As much as these guys piss me off, and have a complete lack of taste, tact, and sympathy, it's not worth your effort to get angry at them.

First off, you can't punch them hard enough to beat their weird beliefs out of them. It's not possible..they're extremists. Besides, how would you feel if some anti-gunner decided that they were going to 'beat your pro-gun attitude' out of you? It wouldn't work, would it? You'd probably just be that more strengthened of your resolve, right? Yeah...that's how they're gonna think at the Westboro Baptist Church, too.

Second, that's their right. We're in America. There is no right 'not to be offended', so as heart-breaking as it must be for the families to have these idiots protesting at their funerals, that's their free speech.

Hacker15E is right. However, First Amendment Free Speech does not extend to private property. Graveyards, if privately owned, are not public parks and therefore the property manager may ask protestors to leave. Roads on the other hand are public and they may line them (so long as they're not creating a safety hazard for traffic). Hacker15E is also right in that using a funeral to protest is in extremely poor taste.

I agree that they do have bad taste, bad tact, and a host of other things that are not the High Road way. However a timely flat tire on the interstate that would delay them long enough for the funeral to complete and they showup to an empty location would be nice
