NY had its first Youth Hunt for spring turkeys last weekend. I took my 13 year old daughter out. Up until now she has shot AT a squirrel, but not killed anything. Along with us was my friend Mike, who called for us (since I know little to nothing about turkey calling). We had a tom and a hen run across in front of us on the way in, and spotted 4 more toms and a hen across a huge field. Mike called one hen and one huge 3 bearded (short beards, frost frozen apparently) gobbler right into Jessica's lap. She was cool as a cucumber. The hen passed the end of her barrel at perhaps ten feet, and the tom was at full strut not far behind her. When he cleared some brush, she let him have it with her 20 gauge Remington 1100, and down he went. I think Mike and I did more happy-dancing than any two grown men should admit to, and were probably WAY more excited than Jessica. Now, if I could just get it into Jessica's head that not *every* hunt is going to be a fifteen minute success story...

Nice Bird!!

Thats is something to be proud of. And congratulations on starting something with your daughter that will help your bond in the years to come! There is nothing like hunting together to build family relationships.
Regards,

Thanks, Beliketrey.

My wife also hunts, so yeah, we've got a good thing going. And my youngest daughter is already an avid fisherperson. Definitely helps keep those relationships close when you can share in things like this.

Here's another photo, this one actually in the field where she shot the turkey, not posed in my front yard, lol.

Outstanding! The only way to keep our way of life alive is to pass it on to the next generations. Hunting, fishing, and the RKBA are all under attack. Thank you for doing your part to defend them.

Nice bird!
And nice to see you getting your kids involved with hunting. I've got two girls myself, and the age is approaching that I can take them out too. Seemed like everyone was trying to find a kid to call for last weekend.
Me and a couple of relatives are going out tomorrow on Gow Road in Appleton, hope we have as good of luck.

Too cool
