Proud Daddy Moment

Oh yeah. That's what I told him.

Yeah I'm sure he would get a kick out of that one, especially if my daughter broke out the doe bleat can. Lol.
Now Grandpa, line up the sights on the deer's shoulder, take a deep breath and let it out slowly, then just squeeze the trigger and you will get a deer like I did! Priceless...

Great thread, thanks for all the smiles.

That would be priceless my daughter telling my dad how to shoot a deer. LOL. She'd never let him live it down to if he missed. Lol. I could just imagine, but I really don't see that ever happening. Lol.

My only regrets on moving to Las Vegas from Michigan 2 years ago was I miss the hunting and that my little ones won't likely know what hunting things like deer are all about.

May be true, but not too far you could get into some Mulies, as well as Elk. I would love to take my daughter Mule deer hunting as well as Elk. We have Elk here in the state, and they're starting to really do good, but they still have the Elk hunt on a draw I believe.

Well, my oldest got to see the complete cycle.

From reloading the bullets, to practicing at range, to scouting, to seeing the deer, to shooting the deer, to cleaning the deer, to tonight where we ate the deer in deer chili.

She was pretty stoked we were eating the meat she provided for her family tonight. I've never seen her eat so much. Lol.

Congrats! I am in the same boat. My almost-nine year old son took his first doe this past Saturday with a .243 Handi rifle and my reduced charge reloads. I couldn't be prouder of him. I told him he shot a deer with my reloads before I ever did! I too gave him the shell casing to keep but I like your idea of writing the info on it.

That's awesome. My daughter did the same, shot a deer with one of my reloads before I had a chance to use one out of my rifle. Lol. It's a great feeling ain't it?

Best part was seeing my dad getting so excited about his grandson take a first deer. Dad had a quadruple bypass last summer and lives for deer hunting, so this was a moment for the ages. I will never take that memory of my dad, my son and I hunting together for granted. Everybody asks me if I helped my son line the gun up or anything, and I tell them no. All I did was cock the hammer for him!

Load was a 95 gr Hornady SST bullet over 31.5 gr IMR 4895. I had to find a reduced load this summer after my son was intimidated by the factory kick and muzzle blast. That load was much tamer but still did the job.

Yeah, same with my daughter.

My dad never deer hunted, but this has made my dad want to learn how too. He too was super excited for his grand daughter, so excited that's he's looking at rifles to deer hunt.

He says he's got time to make up for being away for the military.

"Daddy, you hugged me really hard,"
Oddly enough, I heard those same words when my girl shot her first deer. Savor these moments gentlemen, there's nothing like it.
