Hey all, just wondering. I have never shot Russian ammo in my 30-06 or any other gun. Has anyone had any experience with this stuff. Midway is having a sale on 06 ammo and I'm thinking about maybe placing an order if the sale is still good when I get back onshore. 12 dollars/box. It looks like brass cases and it says boxer primered. Any reloading issues with this ammo that I should watch out for? Or any issues period?

I've grown fond of 180gr ammo, now that I have the 10/22 for smaller stuff, my gun tends to like heavier ammo at the range, and if I can get in on a sale like this then I will feel stocked up. Right now I have only 100 rounds and its a mix of different "flavors." Want to get some more before the next panic where the ammo companies can raise prices.
 
Prvi Partizan is a Serbian manufacturer. I'm sure anything they produce is much better than any Soviet surplus laying around.

However, I too am curious about its quality in relation to other ammo brands, specifically American.
 
I have shot Privi in .22 Hornet, .223, .243, all have been very good, comparable to big three American ammo manufacturers, actually a little bit better in the Hornet and .243.
 
Onmilo, and experiences with reloading, or just looking at the brass after firing? I assume there is only one way to find out but wondering if maybe it was noticably lighter than your other brass or something like that.
 
My experience with prvi is limited to their match .308 ammo, but it's a very positive experience. Hard to beat for the price (nearly half of other match ammo and still submoa).

Again, it's not the 06 ammo you are talking about, but if the stuff I used is indicative of the quality in their other ammo, I would stock up. I stock up on reloading supplies now though (still using prvi brass!)
 
No the Best but if the price is right

Ok ammo not too consistant with loads or crimp, felt recoil may be different from shot to shot, I would compare to American Eagle, or Blaser ammo fun to shoot cheap and messy to clean up after, but if your after the brass its usually a deal.
 
I've been shooting Prvi Partizan handgun ammo since they were sold under the name Hansen Cartridge Company. The ammo is clean. But I've encountered a high number of rounds with bad primers throughout my history of using this brand. Under the Hansen name, it was nothing to have 2-3 in a box of 50 to fail to fire even with a deep dent on the primer. Even with current ammo, I may have 1-2 in a box of 50 that won't fire.
 
As I said, the .22 Hornet and .243 are somewhat better than American ammo and that opinion also applies to the brass.
If you can find RWS primers, they also seem to work best with these cases.
 
I've never noticed any misfires on my ammunition, which is limited pretty much to 7.62x54mmR for my Nagant, out of the 40 rounds that I shot with it on one trip. Then again, mil-surps tend to have strong firing pins, I couldn't speak for pistol ammunition since I shot Federal in my Browning Hi-Power.
 
Prvi is decent quality ammo. I've noticed the primer pockets are shallow, though, and can lead to high primers when you reload them.
 
Thanks for the comments people. Don't know when I'll be comming in from my next rig visit but I think I've eliminated the "grudge" that I've had about foreign ammo. I never trusted it enough to buy any.

Micro, do Remington core locts run in your gun? This is the "economy" ammo that I typically use and it runs great in my Rem 700, though I have heard of people having problems with it as well. Just wondering if this is the only ammo that you have issues with.

My take is that their rifle ammo is good stuff, handgun ammo not so much. IMHO, it's almost like two different plants make handgun ammo and rifle ammo.

I have not reloaded any of their rifle brass, so no opinion there.

Rifle calibers fired have been .30-30, .308 and .223. Handguns - .32 ACP and .38 Special.
 
I bought some in different calibers.

8 mm 180 gr SP , grouped 1.5 inch at 100 yds using my m 24 47
6.5 x 55 139 gr SP , grouped 2 inch at 100 yds with my M 96 Swedishmauser.
 
As long as it'll kill a deer and I can reload the brass, I call it good. I shoot sub-MOA when I do my part with Remington so I expect to see 2 MOA groups at most from my gun if the ammo is good. (good enough for a clean kill)
 
I have shot Prvi-Partizan in my 6.5x55 and 7.62x54R. It is very good ammo for the money and the SP bullets are good cup and core, much like the Rem Core-lokt in construction. The brass is reloadable and equal to Remington's for longevity.

Wolf Gold ammo is made in the same factory as Prvi-Partizan, and they offer similar bullets to each other.

Graff & Sons has Prvi-Partizan components available, and good prices.

I have been reloading the same 400 PPU 6.5x55 cases since 1990 and have also reloaded their brass in 8x57, 7x57, 7.65x53, .308, .223, 6.5 Arisaka, 8mm Lebel, 7.62x53 and .303 British.
In all the many hundreds of PPU rifle rounds I have fired, I had the minor irritation of one dead primer in the early 1990s...otherwise no problems.
Their .303 British brass is some of the best in the world, real British spec cases that don't deform in the Enfield chamber like the undersize SAAMI stuff.

I have bought some in .270 Win. I can't truly comment on the accuracy because my shooting wasn't that good at the time. I won't go into excuse mode. (except maybe to say my spotter was clueless:evil:) The brass has been good in .270 that I reloaded.

I have used the brass in .223 & .308.

It all seems a little harder when sizing. I have not had any problems with primers being high. All was boxer primed.

My buddy did have some .30-06 develop head separations. This however may not be the brass but the other headstamps did not develop the problem. It could have been from too much sizing/headspace. The necks were not split. The head seps were fairly consistent. I think it was range pickup. Definitely shot in a Garand the last 5-6 loadings. So cause is inconclusive.

Bottom line is if you have to inspect the brass anyway.

I have had pretty good luck across the board with Core-Lokts including using the bullets in handloads.
 
Brass is good and reloads well, it all goes BANG! when it's supposed to, but I've not had the best accuracy with the Prvi that I've shot (30-06, 270, and 223). It's OK for offhand practice and such things, but I wouldn't use it for long range hunting or somesuch.

used 7.5x55 Swiss and 30-30.

both shot decently and the brass was okay. not as good as Winchester brass in my experience but still a good deal.

I shoot Prvi in a number of calibers and it is very nice. Never had a problem, brass always looks good. Accuracy is on par with, or better than anything you can buy at Wally world. Two thumbs up for Prvi :)

Now if they would just load stuff in 7.7 JAP, then we'd be really cookin!
 
WNTFW, Bayoushooter I'm not familiar with. I'm in the Lafayette area so I have frequented Custom Gunworks and Lafayette shooters a bit for supplies. Had a key to the Fusillier range for a bit but now I shoot at Sherbern WMA pretty regularly, it's a half hour from my house, PM me if you are in the area and next time I go to shoot maybe we can go down there.
