Kinda looking at a PSA AR-10 in 308. Some of the reviews point out it's not DPMS.

What does DPMS mean with respect to an AR-10?
What are the implications of an AR-10 not being DPMS?
Do PSA AR-10s use standard, ubiquitous Magpul PMAGs?

Or they can be completely different from both DPMS and Armalite. My understanding is that PA10 upper and lower receivers are only compatible with PA10 receivers upper or lower counterparts.

That was true of the gen 1s, but starting gen 2 they claimed to make them compatible with other uppers. I’ve seen gen 3 lowers with aero uppers. I wonder if at this point it’s vague just in case someone’s no name upper doesn’t fit.

There is no mil spec or standard across the board for ar10 so there is no guarantee of compatibility. I have two ar10's, one a DPMS gen 1 and the other a Windham Weaponry. The Windham is LR 308 and looks similar to the dpms but there is no guarantee that the parts interchange. They both take LR/SR magazines tho. Someone I know has a Palmetto State ar10 (I'm not sure what gen it is, I will ask today) and the lower looks like my two but the upper is a lot different in some regards. I've never tried to swap parts between any ar10, I tend to stick to the company that made the rifle for replacement parts.

What he said.

There is no industry wide standard. Just because a company makes AR's to the DPMS pattern does NOT mean that they will work with parts/receivers from other manufacturers.

And correct that the PSA Gen 1 lowers will not work with Aero uppers. I don't know how compatible the PSA Gen 2 or Gen 3 lowers are with Aero uppers. While a PSA Gen 2 or 3 upper will work on a PSA Gen 1 lower, they will not match up perfectly (mostly a cosmetic issue). I built my 308 AR in 2016 and stuck with a PSA Gen 1 upper and PSA Gen 1 lower along with the correct PSA lower parts kit.

And lower parts are not 100% compatible between the different manufacturers either. I know PSA uses a combination of standard AR15 parts along with their own proprietary parts for their PA10 lowers.

And this I did not understand either, thank you!

And for all the pendants, now a search for "DPMS" in this Rifles sub-forum yields this thread explaining the actual effect of DPMS wrt AR-10s.

Of the dozen+ AR15's I've owned, I've built them all.

My one AR10 is a factory complete PSA gen2 (maybe 3?). Just too many variables, and it's set up about how I want it anyways. I think I might swap the 20" Hbar for a lighter 16" but I'll just use a PSA barrel for the swap.

From what I've been told the difference between DPMS and Armalite is one has a radiused upper and the other is angled, I've seen a PSA lower with a Bear creek upper and it looked fine, I also saw a 80%black lower with a tan upper that looked surprisingly good.

Stag AR10 lower's don't work with anything but Stag uppers; angled. I don't know if the Stag lower will work with an Armalite upper.

I remember DPMS was the most common AR 10 out of all the types so that is why I have a remington DPMS. much easier to find parts uppers and lowers

I would assume that folks are using the more modern DPMS G2 definition, meaning the PA10’s, while technically DPMS Gen1 designs, aren’t the smaller Gen2 format.

DPMS (old gen) up/lower and Aero up/lower never have an issue using 2nd Magpul and Hexamags.
