Stopped by the LGS looking for an AR handguard. Well I start looking at all the guns (of course), and he shows me a PSA complete with a 1/8 16" free float mid length with quad rail. The barrel has the military profile and the finish I'm not sure because he wasn't sure. Nato with a Wylde chamber.
No sights with one Pmag.

$523.23 OTD......is this a good deal? Should I or shouldn't I?

16 inch Wylde chamber? Sure it's not 18 inch?

Likely it's a nitride finish...

Yes nitride. Has a FA Bolt. I didn't do my due diligence, I will have to go back and touch it.
There are some like it on the PSA site.

This dealer has looks like a page off the PSA site! He has PSA barreled uppers lined up!

One thing that comes to mind is he has been dealing PSA for awhile. Service after the sale!

Consider you spent $50 support your LGS, it is a good deal. Would be cheaper if you order from PSA online

Probably not once you factor shipping, transfer & magazine. Even with free shipping on a ~$400 kit, will likely end up being over $500 after you pay $50-$60 for a lower, $10 to ship it, $25-$40 for transfer, and $10-$15 for a magazine. I always advise people to expect about another $100 on top of a rifle kit before they have something usable, unless they already have mags and have a hook up on transfers or lowers (or are doing an 80%). Yeah, my last 3 lowers cost me $36/ea shipped, but they were 80% anodized blems.

It has a quad rail? I haven't seen a PSA upper with quad rail in awhile. They have went mostly M-Lok, Classic or Keymod these days. Either way, it is not a bad price from a Gun Shop. I have a lot of PSA gear, and all has been good to go.

I will admit, I am slightly biased....PSA is my LGS, so no transfer fees on lowers or firearms. One day I will see if I can just direct deposit my paycheck there.....

I say a quad rail, but it was a free floating barrel with one of the all metal guards.

I have been looking at the Aero Precision which he sad he could get.....but these he stocks.
So I have to decide which has the better important parts.

PSA does a great job of offering good stuff at good prices. As you know they have inexpensive to more expensive options. If the configure is what you want and it's in your Bridget then grab it and enjoy. If not, put your pennies aside and when the right deal comes along jump on it.

If you want an AR, that is a pretty good price and you do not have to wait on PSA to get it. Defects handled locally if any. For the hassle factor alone along with the options, you are getting a pretty good deal plus supporting your LGS. Win-Win.

Respectfully, I believe Colt (or BCM, DD, Noveske, etc.) uses better components and has better in house QA than most other AR manufactures. They certainly retain their resale value better. Of course, I understand that a few hundred bucks ain't chicken feed, but there are some bloody good deals on 6920s right now. I'd do this in a heartbeat. In fact, I just did via Grabagun.
