The piece, for me anyway, has excellent shootability. I've owned other rifles that were mechanically more accurate, but were not nearly as friendly and comfortable to shoot. What I can actually do with a rifle from real shooting positions is more important to me than teeny tiny groups fired from a bench with everything sandbagged in position. In terms of what the rifle is designed to do 1.5 inch to 2 inch groups are more than adequate. Shootability, and reliability are more important than sub 1-inch groups.

Maybe it's just my age showing, but I don't understand the modern obsession with sub-moa bench performance out of field rifles. Within the effective range of the 7.62 x 54mm light ball cartridge fired from a rifle at live targets, I don't believe there is any practical difference between a rifle that fires 1 inch groups from a bench and one that fires 1.5 inch groups, or even 2 inch groups. YMM, of course, V.

I think I will buy another one
You sound like FMJMIKE. :)

I think with a proper trigger job
You'd probably like the Red Star Arms trigger. I put one in mine and played around with the adjustments. I got a really nice 2 stage trigger with a smooth 1st stage and a second stage with a lovely snap.

You can get it for a good price at www.blackjackbuffers.com they had the cheapest price I could find.

I think lot of folks like to chase that perfect group where all the holes are touching. I agree with you, it isn't that important. But everyone has their own "things" that keep them interested in their hobby.

The only drawback is when folks come on these forums and get unrealistic expectations that lead to a lot of frustration, wasted time and money.

so how does one go about putting in a new trigger group? I am thinking the tapco g2 trigger since I am all out of money after 2 spam cans of bulgarian and a couple hundred prvi partisan 150 grain fmj (bought for the brass, I am going to fire it out of my mosin first as the psl just bends brass all to hell) the prvi gets the smallest groups thus far, compared to czech silver tip and russian light ball garbage (6" groups).

as for corrosive ammo, well, you might have to put the buttplate on the ground and kick the bolt handle to knock the piston loose once in awhile, but it's fine after that. chrome bore and chamber so no worries.

Dunno about you, but this just SCREAMS easy 600 yard shots to me :)

Yikes. Soldier on Commie snipers.

alright, I am about to order a g2 trigger kit from tapco. Just making sure that that trigger will fit in my psl? And, which is better the single hook? Or the double hook, or is this just my preference?

P.S I would buy the red star trigger but nearly 80 bucks is quite a bit for me right now so I am just going to go with the tapco.
thanks for your input

As far as your other question, I remember reading a story on here or TFL about a Russian in Afghanistan in the 1980s. I can't remember the specifics, but I do remember him saying that he only had a few mags on hand and that the mags were very hard to get in the combat zone. Maybe you can dig it up if the search engine gods smile upon you.

I have read it too, and found part of it. The original one that I read says he carried between 150 to 200 with most of it being in the original little paper bag it comes out of the can in. but he kept around 100 to 120 in mags if he could and 80 as his bare minimum. It has been a couple of weeks since I read it so I could just be making up numbers but oh well...

nice looking gun. I got mine from century, it came with 6 mags and I gought two more for 20 bucks off a guy who had got rid of his psl

okay, I am about to refinish my psl, but I haven't the slightest idea how to get the dang buttstock off:cuss:!!! That back screw with the nut is impossible to get off. My dad works for a place that rebuilds giant motors and has around $40,000 worth of tools and we can't find a single one that will remove this nut without some sort of mod to a tool he already has. Anybody else have this same problem? Anybody able to help me remove it?

I used a fender washer which fit just right in the slots in the threaded insert.Took a little effort to hold it but broke the screw loose.

My Vepr will do anything that PSL will do and probly better. I don't believe a 308 gives up much to a 7.62X54. I am pretty much done with anything romanian.

That is a sick looking vepr. Some day I'll get one. I stroke on a vepr at My local shop now and again. A 223 with no bells and NO whistles............nuthin. not even a break! Kinda plain Jane for 900 bucks. But, they are about the cleanest kalashnikov out there.

And rizbunk77
that is a nice one for sure. But being a kalashnikov You won't get much more, if any more for accuracy. And even if I thought Ya could, I wouldn't admit it! hahahahahaha!!!!!!

PSLs ROCK! CCSNIPER, CONGRATS!!!!!

p.s. about removing the butt stock. The screw and nut thing holding onto the combing is staked! I had to drill the first section of the screw and nut to remove the staked portion. after this it just unscrews.

Not sure I understand you, can you do pics?

OK, sorry for the delay but here is a photo.

this is the milling bit I used. I chucked it up in My
18 volt cordless drill. (I bought the bit at a local
Bi Mart.) Then I unscrewed the bolt back
up till the staked portion catches the nut.
dwovep.jpg
Finally I removed the disfigured portion of the screw
shaft by milling it off flush with the nut. It came right off after
a few minutes. If you go this rout You will have to hold the rifle
and drill pretty tight and make the cut slow!!!!
The bit will want to jump off the screw and eat Your rifle or leg.
I got lucky though and it seemed to work out fine.

I hope this helps.

P.S. Nice rifle jackinil!!!!

thanks alpinemike!!! That really helps, I love the way your psl looks jackinil. I am torn between a green colored wood stain, or a dark red mahogany color. I posted a thread about it and the green color is called early spring and looks like mildewy/moldy wood which I really like and then put a glossy finish on it and to me that would be awesome, but then again a red mahogany or real dark oak with a glossy finish would also look awesome. Again thanks alpinemike!

I went for a deep honey oak color. I didn't want to slip too far away from an authentic color. I do however love the deeper red tones. I know My PSL is a web photo slut but here's a different shot.

Of course I suppose this could be My fault!;) I just really like My PSL:)

Ok I guess I'm going to have to get mine out this week and shoot it. I've had well over a year, I think its time to have some fun.
