Does anyone have experience with PT Night Sights? I am thinking of getting them to install tritium in the bar-dot configuration into the standard factory sights on a Colt 1991.

Photoguy recently sold a new Colt S70 in the for sale forum on this board with that configuration and that is what got me to thinking about this.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

PT sights have a colored reputation -- and it isn't all bright.

I've had a couple of pair fail very EARLY in their life, and several of my friends had the same experience. Not confidence building.

PT did, however, make them good quickly, and except for the minor cost of shipping a slide to them, it wasn't a bad experience. And the replacement held up pretty well (I later sold both guns, but haven't heard from the new owners, complaining.)

Supposedly, the company is under new management.

If you can find other sources (Trijicon, Aro-Tek, Meprolight, XS) I'd recommend them first... but for some guns (like CZs) PT is one of the few companies that offers anything.

I had a set of PT sights. They are OK, but there are better choices out there (e.g. Trijicon).

I wouldn't have thought they could do that, since the standard Colt rear sight is so thin front-to-back. Interesting.

That is really what interests me the most. I have an old parkerized ORM 1991 in which I put an arched MSH and short trigger. My problem is that I do not do as well with just black sights (these were pre- three dot), and I really like the idea of the bar-dots without milling the slide.

I currently have a Kimber slide at Heinie for installation of Straight 8's. I guess if those are as good as I think they will be, I may just opt for that.

pt sights

I have them on my glock, about as bright as a burned out light bulb. Go for the others, have mepros on my kimber and love them. My eyes are going so its hard for me to see reg tgt sights, going to replace all my front sights with fiber optic maybe that will help! Browse the web there are alot of sites out there.

As youve gotten so far its a mixed deal. I swore ID NEVER CALL PT AGAIN, but Ive done it. The latest production stuff is good and they really are trying to get the company turned around. The problem is theyve turned it around so much, theyre right back where they started.......te he he

Honestly, Ive had better luck with them and Ive had EVERY companies nights.....Heinie, Trij, Mep, PT, bla bla......PT is getting better.....BUT

If you can find Meps or Trij........thats my first choice.

Shoot well.

You might want to consider a set of Yost-Bonitz sights, which fit in the rear dovetail (no milling) and can take a tritum bar. I like them ALOT better than the standard Colt 3-dot sights.

Thanks, Sean. 2 questions however:

1. What front sight would you use with that rear sight?
2. Does Yost do the installation of the tritium?

Thanks,

WJR

1. My gun has a dovetailed Novak front sight with the Y-B rear sight.

2. I think so.

Sean,

Thanks again. Would you mind PMing or e-mailing me and letting me know all that Ted Yost did to your Delta.

I am thinking about sending a new S70 to him for some work and may just get that same sight set up along with the other items. (I do want the bar rear sight, however.)

You can read all about it here:

Ted is pretty busy, but he's also added another gunsmith (Marty Cuttrel, who worked for Wilson Combat & did Colt warranty work on Pythons) to Yost-Bonitz LLC, and has moved into a new & much improved shop, so his turn-around times should still be pretty reasonable as far as pistolsmiths go.

I got PTs put on a gun about 3 years ago. After about a year they were super dull. Now they barely glow at all.

XS sights are big, bright, and super easy to get a sight picture with in the dark.

WJR, I have the PT bar-dot type and the bar does not seem bright enough. I think because it is too thin of a line, so I too would recommend Trijicon or Meprolight.

Thanks again for the replies. Here is my next question, does Trijicon offer a bar-dot setup?? I did not see one on their website..

I guess right now I am leaning toward the Y-B rear sight with a tritium bar installed.

WJR

I don't think that Trijicon offers the bar-dot configuration. I certainly have never seen it.

I have a pair on a Sig 225. I wouldn't buy them again. As others have said if you get them go with the green, any other color is dull. Also although they are three years younger than my trijicons they are already much weaker.
