If it weren't for this site, i wouldn't have given these guns a second thought. But due to the multitude of positive posts regarding these pistols, i'm giving a hard thought about buying one. So i have a couple of questions that I hope Owners of this particular firearm might help me out with.

1. Is it comfortable to shoot? (by this i mean i know its compact but could i use it at the range without taking a beating for it?)

2. Whats a decent price for one of these things?

3. Are there any places I can get aftermarket magazines, or does it come with more than one?

Those are basically what i was wondering and i was a bit too lazy to skim through all the posts that would come up if i typed it into search. Thanks in advance

I just bought one and it's great. It's very accurate and the recoil is not a problem. I paid $309 in ABQ for the s/s. It came with two mags. :)

Good choice

I'm happy with mine. very accurate reliable easy to carry, 11 rounds of .45 in a compact. Gun came with only one mag. And the dealer threw 1 for free in the deal. and all for not a lot of $$.

I don't regret buying mine I usually don't have the 1500-2000 bucks to spend on overpriced .45s.

I think the recoil is mild with standard 230gr loads, but gets somewhat snappy shooting +P loads, particularly in a lighter bullet weight. I believe the polymer frame absorbs some of recoil so it is less than you might think.

You can find a new one in the $330-350 range on Gunbroker, plus shipping and your dealer's transfer fee. You might get a better over all price from your dealer.

1) very nice to shoot, only time I put it down is after running out of ammo.

2) under $350 today, I paid under $300 in 2004.

3) factory mags are expensive, around $40, but they work. mine came with two.

PT145

I find this gun to be a very good shooter and heck of a bargain. It is going to be my CCW in a few weeks (once I get my permit).

1) The recoil is not bad at all. In fact, I can compare it to my Ruger P90, which is a larger gun. I think the polymer frame helps with that.

2) I paid $340 plus tax for mine at Gander Mountain. I think I could have gotten one cheaper, but I had some gift cards from Christmas.

3) Mine came with two 10 round magazines and a magazine loader. Magazines are not cheap (~$40) but you can get them from Midwayusa.com or EBay.

I hope this helps. I like mine!

Thats it, i'm sold. I just got my tax return check so i'm going to spend a chunk of it on one of these:) Thank you all for talking me into it. Now i need to post a thread about how to buy a gun from a gunshow (the dealer I want to get it from lives pretty far away from me, but they go to the localish gunshow). Thank you all for your help.

Fun little gun
I bought mine used and I bet the previous owner is still kicking himself.
Paid $299 used then 2 weeks later found a new one for $310 :banghead:
but it was in another town entirely so I don't feel that bad
Mine came w/ 1 mag and I found 2 more on e-bay for about $32 each--Taurus branded mags
Grab one while you can
Its a great little gun with a whole lot of firepower at a great price.
What's not to love?;)

I love mine. I carry it in a High Noon Hoster...think it was called the side scabbard or something...very comfortable!:) I also carry it in a Mika pocket holster during those overcoat/rain jacket days we are plagued with in Washington State. I use the all-copper DPX bullets and got to tell you, this DAO pocket cannon is revolver-reliable...only with 10 + 1 rounds .45 ACP! Like the man said, "What's not to like?":D

go for it!!!

1. Is it comfortable to shoot? (by this i mean i know its compact but could i use it at the range without taking a beating for it?)
YES, it is very comfortable to shoot and IMHO it gets easier and smoother the more you shoot it. i have the SA/DA 3rd gen. model in SS and i just LOVE it. last time at the range i went thru the entire session shooting it and felt nothing from my hand...it was strangely the most comfortable shooting experience i have ever had, and it was from my compact .45....go figure.

2. Whats a decent price for one of these things?
i purchased my pt145 pro recently and paid $355 for it from a local shop (firearms exchange), gandermountain was selling it for $359. i called around and just about everyone else was about $30 bucks more than the gandermountain price. im sure you can find it close to $300 if you take your time and search, just be sure it is the 3rd generation model. im pretty sure that the price on these will go over $400 really soon, and if one of those popular magazines do a positive review or it wins an award or something then it will definitely shoot the price up. so buy one NOW while they are fairly inexpensive...its well worth the money.

3. Are there any places I can get aftermarket magazines, or does it come with more than one?
it comes with 2 ten round mags as others have stated. i have looked around online and prices are <$40 for a single mag. not sure why the price is so high...but its not a biggie for me. carrying 21 rounds of .45 ACP is plenty for me. also, loading the mags are fairly easy and doesn't tire out the fingers when not using the loader...so its not like you need to have a bunch of mags when at the range either.

Just got mine (Gen 3 SA/DA SS) on Thursday, so not even got to shoot it yet and already love it. Size and balance (loaded) is comfortable yet small/light enough to be a great CCW. I stripped/cleaned mine but it was already well lubed and the action (using snap caps) for feed and firing is very smooth. Paid $333 +tax for mine....and did I mention I love it? :)

It's a heck of a design for a small .45 and cheap. Mine was a POS at first but Taurus fixed it right. The grip is actually to small for my hand, I want to hit the mag release during rapid fire. BTW don't feed these things a steady diet of +P ammo. It will handle it but some posters have experienced bad recoil spring problems with a constant diet. I think the Taurus brand Hex 185gr bullets are perfect for these guns and that all copper bullet expands amazingly well in any media.

PT145! No regrets!

Recoil is about the same as my 1911... or my XD45 compact, but in a package just larger than a J-frame smith.

I was carrying a 642, and found that for a little more width, I could have twice the ammo onboard with the PT145. I paid $325 and then sprung for the tritium sights after(midway)...WOW! I have also found that I can hit anything with the PT145 that I can hit with my 1911! (and now in the dark!)
I like the XD loaded chamber indicator better; but I the PT145 has double strike capability without resetting the slide, a double action trigger, and a frame mounted thumb safety!!

the mag is 10 rounds standard, Ebay has them, Your gunstore locally probably has them. I bought 3 more the day after I bought the pistol.

Granted, It doesn't have the machining that a 1911 has, and my XD feels more durable, but for a light compact carry gun that feels good and puts steel on target EVERY time, I cannot fault the Taurus!

Carry Gun? I would buy another PT145 in a minute!! Win, Win, Win!!!
