Okay, so I am dedicated girlfriend looking for a great Christmas gift. My boyfriend took an interest in guns about a year ago and has been shooting at mostly indoor ranges, but I know he would enjoy going outside. (He tells me all the time.) I'm basically trying to buy him a pass (which I am not sure exists) for a few hours at an outdoor range.

Here is what I am looking for:

1. Some place relatively close to Orlando, FL. (An hours drive away is okay).
2. Public.
3. I am willing to spend 50-80 dollars on this pass.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

There is a public range in Ocala. There are also numerous Shooting clubs in and around the Orlando area. Call a local Gun Store to find out the deals in your area.:)

i live just north of jax fl and have access to the city range here where i live if he wants to come this far north he is more then welcome to joine me on a week end

Road Ends Range, its just South of Disney.....Don't know that they have a day pass though. http://www.roadendsrange.com/

Is he into Rifle's or Pistols or ???

I am bringing the nationwide Appleseed Rifle Clinic to the above range January 27,28 It would be a great experience for a relatively new shooter. You should come too.

The Appleseed is a Rifle event anything from a ruger 10-22 to an AR or an AK, a hunting rifle etc...its a 1 or 2 day event $45 for 1 $70 for 2 and he would get to shoot close to home and learn a LOT quickly. If he does not have a rifle I can help find him a loaner for the event he will just need the admission fee and pay for or bring appropriate ammo (about 300 rounds)

Appleseed Program offers Gift Certificates, Im sure there is time to get it by Christmas http://www.rwva.org/yabbse/index.php?topic=1453.0 ...those are good at the Florida shoot.

Feel free to contact me for info on the range or the Appleseed shoot [email protected]

Im sure he (and you) would be welcome at some of their other events as well. Its also an amazingly inexpensive place to join.

Good Luck,
Mike

BTW......if your (or he) is under 20 or active military the admission fee is waved, so the only real cost is ammo.....assuming you have basic safety gear and a rifle. Also, even if he is primarily a pistol shooter the training is still a lot of fun, educational, and it translates well to some aspects of pistol shooting.

I've been to Tenoroc, it's a nice range. Nice benches. Any single rifle lane can shoot at 25, 50 or 100 yards. That's convenient.

Only negative was, they didn't have sandbags or small wooden rests available there. But, I haven't gone in a long time, so I don't know if that's changed or not. If you need a rest, bring one!

There's another 2 outdoor ranges in Lakeland. One is private, the other is public. Lakeland is not far from Orlando. Probably closer than your other choices.

Both.

Oh Mike... no one wants to see me hold a gun. lol

Thanks! I'll look into that place soon.

Actually my wife's first experience shooting a Rifle was at an Appleseed Clinic in Alabama.....it was such a positive experience that I took my 12 year old daughter to another event in North Carolina. After both experiences I came home and organized the shoot at Road Ends. A big BIG part of the Project Appleseed is introducing new shooters into handling Rifle's well and safely.

I do want to see you shoot a gun, as I'm sure many others here on The High Road would agree, Its only through education and convertion of non-shooters that our Firearms rights are secured.

You should both come, and both shoot.....you just might surprise yourself !
