Hello all-
I plan on visiting Monument Valley sometime this coming Spring and would like to do some shooting while in that part of the country. Can anyone recommend a range (or ranges) in that area? TIA.

That area is on the Navajo Indian reservation. I would strongly suggest you check with the local LEO (tribal) before even bringing firearms on to the reservation. I know hunting permits are issued to non Indians, but I also know it is up to the local tribes. Poaching on tribal land is a huge offense that is dealt with seriously. I'm not saying that you are a poacher, just that having a firearm with you and no hunting license may not look that good. I doubt they would bother you about a pistol for self defense. My dealings with tribal LEOs are all very positive.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I knew it was reservation land, I was just hoping for a public range in the area I could paper punch at. Not a hunter, so no danger there. Apparently there is a public range in Page, AZ, but that is a fur piece from where I'd be.

Jhansman - you might look for a map or atlas of the general area (Four Corners - Az; NM; Ut; Co - and see if there is some BLM land near where you will be. Generally OK to shoot on BLM land, if not near habitation, and you have a safe backstop. Do be careful of the multitude of reservations in the general area. You might ask locally where you stop, if there is a nearby public place to shoot (won't be a "range", just a convenient place).

I guess that is the way to go. Never shot on BLM land before, but there's gotta be some around there. Off to do a little more homework...
