This Puma Rifle, chambered .357/.38 spl. doesn't like .38 special shells, but chambers .357 shells readily. I can't see a difference, though there probably is one. Is it the Rifle, or the shells, or is it just me?
With the Marlin it can depend on which .38 spcls. There was an article on it somewhere, it gave some dimensions and said 38 spcl shorter than that are what causes the problem. May be a different matter entirely with Puma.
I have the Navy Arms version also built by Rossi. If you cycle the lever slowly sometimes the shorter 38 special cases get stuck. If you move the lever fast this doesn't occur.
I would say it is the rifle. This is a common problem in .38/.357 rifles of all brands. Some chamber .38 special just fine and some don't.
I have one of the Puma .38/.357 rifles and it chambers .38 special with no problems. I did nothing special to the rifle except for change out the plastic follower for a steel one.
