Pump action .223 Rifle?

Well, while I try to love all guns equally...

I can tell you the this one makes me sick.

Im sure it is a great rifle though. :neener:

One if the "LE" gun rags has an article on it. Not sure which one but it is current issue.

Good thing to own if you live in oz. For some reason, post 1996, pump action shotguns and semi automatic rifles are banned but pump action rifles are not. .223 is a great calibre for many feral animals here.

800 bucks is pricey!

And it is Australian legal?

Good. I think it would be a good varmint gun there.

I will have to check out the article in the LE mag.

As near as I can tell, that thing is an altered 7600, which makes sense. Even the model number starts with 76. However the Remington website says it is based on the 870. I think the darn bean-counters at Remington are at it again:
"The Model 7615P Pump rifle, based on the rugged and reliable Model 870 shotgun, delivers first shot accuracy and ultra-fast follow-up shots as the shooter instantly chambers another round from the higher capacity magazine."

I saw one in a rack at a gun store. I didn't even pick it up.
The legend is that it will be easy to use by somebody whose only prior long gun training and experience is with a riot gun.

I can tell you the local FFL is selling them for $835 which is higher than the Bushmaster AR's next to it.

Same here except the price was about $100 less, still the same as a bare bones AR. With that in mind my next .223 will be the carbon Bushy that is AR parts compatible. This thing and the SU-16 while interesting keep themselves priced out of my safe. If this 7615 critter was $350 I would jump on it, I like the simple rifle big mag concept.

Remington's new marketing campaign. "Hey, it's better than the Crossfire!"

It's my thinking that this .223 pump rifle is intended as a direct replacement for the 870 shotguns which ride in many thousands of police vehicles. "Based on the 870" is an easy way of pre-disposing cops and cop bureaucrats toward a "familiar" design, and will greatly reduce their sales resistance, I'm sure. Times are changing, and more rifles are finding homes in police cars. Keeping the shotgun and adding a rifle which works just about exactly the same also would make good sense, and expand the users' options.

This Remington also avoids all the negative connotations of equipping the local fuzz with (gasp) "'assault rifles/ machineguns/maiming machines" while still giving the cops relatively-good firepower and mag capacity with the SAME ammunition capabilities as the evil black rifles.

From that standpoint, I believe the rifle makes a lot of sense. However, I don't see why it should cost so much. It will doubtless sell for a LOT less on a law-enforcement purchase order.

It would be so nice if they would modify the 7600P in .308 to take M-14 mags...that would be awesome :).

Just my .02,
LeonCarr

I held one at the gun store and thought what the heck is the point. It is as big as a shotgun its based on, shoots .223, is a pump action rifle, and with the mag in is as ugly as sin.

If you want a .223 rifle get either some AR or a bolt action varmit gun. If you want a pump action make it shot gun to shoot some big slugs or something.

Rem Pump .223

The main selling point is to offer a police rifle with
less training needed for officers already familiar with
the 870 pump shotgun, which is as close to a universal
US police weapon as we now have. Beyond a police
department with 870 shotguns and some AR15 rifles,
I see little need for this niche weapon.
