Look around in here for online stores to buy from, Bud's is one of the good ones, but there are others.
I've found that certain stores often have the best prices for a certain line of product, and average prices for other lines of product, and occasionally, any given store may have the best sale price on a particular product at a given time.
For example, as I recall, Bud's often has good selection and pricing on S&W semis, but may not always have the best selection or price of another product on a particular day, maybe glock or ket tec or something I was looking for, and maybe someone else was a better source for glock most days, but some other store had a killer sale price for a limited time.
Before buying from an unknown store, search the forum here for the dealer/site name, and see what comes up, should give ya a feel for their process, strength's and weaknesses.
For example, I bought something from Impact Guns one time, had exactly what I wanted and a good price. They have had some weaknesses, some I learned about before hand, and some I learned later. Like they list a lot of stuff as on back order but you can order it/reserve it. Or they lack a little in communication via their online system, but I found once I called them, I could track the order better talking to someone, rather than emailing them.
As for the transfers, many gun shops charge a premium, give your guys a chance, but if they want to charge more than $20-$25 for a transfer, I'd go somewhere else.
If no gun shops offer a good transfer rate, try pawn shops, they often sell guns and do transfers, and may be more competitive.
There are some FFL dealers that don't have a big store/overhead. I found one of these guys in my local area, happened to be a CCW instructor I was looking at getting a class anyway, and turned out when I googled "FFL Dealer in My City ST" this website turned up:
http://www.shooting-hunting.com/results.html?Keywords=&City=seattle&State=WA&Zip=&Country=usa
I tried to do a search on Seattle WA, assuming that's where you're at. You could see if any dealers are in your area here, or try your own google search.
Search forum for online gun stores or dealers, or something, there are several threads where people give substantial lists of dealers, and some comments about them...
Good luck, I bought my first handgun online, and saved well over $100 compared to local. I still shop locally, but compare to online too....
(BTW, anyone know why I had trouble posting this in firefox? Had to use IE coz FF said 'forum only allows posting once in 60 seconds, you must wait another 37 seconds. So basically, it tried unsuccessfully to post for 20 plus seconds and thought I was trying to post multiple times, but I wasn't....hmmm seems I'm having trouble in IE too, geez)
