cibach: let me know what scope you pick if/when you decide on one, it'll be a little while, but that will be the first upgrade I'm in the market for, except maybe a Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40mm BDC

I just put a down payment on a R700 SPS-V at Gander Mountain tonight, I'll be going back to get it when I get my check from my stock broker for my annual dividends. From there it comes with a scope labelled "Remington," not sure what brand it actually is, but has a simple reticle and is a 4-12x40mm. I looked through it in the store and it seemed to be pretty good quality, we'll see how it holds up outdoors. It also comes with a cheap hard case/padlock and a shoulder strap, and I got it for $630, I think I got a pretty good deal, even though the individual components aren't the best, it's a good starter set for the money.

The Remington 700 SPS-V is good but I'd start to look for another stock for alot more accuaccy, they'll shoot 1MOA out of the box, however. Try to look at the SPS Tactical.

A little more info would help. What is your budget? Do you want something light enough to carry or do you want a strictly target gun. If you going to hunt, what, where? With the criteria you have given almost any bolt rifle or cartridge made within the last 100 years would qualify.
