Purhcased a new S&W 637-2 today

and boy was I suprised when I pulled the side plate to give it a trigger job. This gun should be called a Smlock&Wesson. I haven't seen this much polymer on anything but a Glock.

Reound slide, cylinder stop, mainspring cup and cylinder latch are all polymer. The trigger and hammer have been skelatonized(bad thing) and no longer silver. Case hardened rusts doesn't it? I don't know whether to trust this thing for concealed carry or not. I am very disapointed in this S&W.

The lawyer locks can be removed.......in about 5 minues or less. hpg

Mine is about two years old and doesn't have any plastic parts, except the mainspring cup. I can't imagine using a plastic cylinder stop or rebound block. When did they start doing this?

Sorry to hear that. Does the polymer make the action smoother?

Case hardened steel with rust, but not if you keep a little oil on it. Using stones on case hardened parts will make them wear very quickly and is not recommended. Smith used to flash chrome them, but they'll do anything to cut corners.

If I remember correctly, my rebound block and cylinder stop had a black coating on them before I polished them. They may have looked a little like polymer. Did you try to polish the rebound to see if it is just a coating? My hammer and trigger are MIM, and had a "finish" that looked like case hardening. I still think that it is applied to hide imperfections in the MIM parts. I have been told that it is the hardening finish. Anyway, it will come off with metal polish and a rag and the parts will be silver color. I have had good results tuning my S&W guns with the newer MIM parts.

I have serious doubts even S&W would stoop that low.

I am leaning towards the blackened MIM theory.

It may be MIM, but it sure looks like polymer to me.

I can't fire out why they would MIM a spring cup.

The rebound slide was very smooth, so I did not polish it. I could be mistaken about this. I may have to take the plate off again and put a magnet to these parts to make absolute sure.

The cylinder lock was blackish in color like the rest of the parts. hpg
