I have a chance to purchase a Schmidt & Bender scope with a 30mm tube and 56 mm bell at a very good price. I have a Ruger No. 1 that has the Ruger Scope Ring system with 1" rings. I think I can get 30mm rings from Ruger but I don't think I can get anything from them that will handle the 56 mm obi. Any of you guys ever put a scope on a Ruger with similar sizes and if so what type of mounts did you have to go with? I hate to go the drill and tap route .........:confused::(.

Ruger may have a set of Xtra-High rings that will accomodate the 56mm size objective.

But be advised, the #1 rifle is not stocked to be used with scopes that have to be mounted on stepladders. You'll likely have the Devil's own time keeping a solid cheek-to-comb contact (which may even be one reason the scope-seller is selling) and that could be much more harmful to your shooting than the high-dollar scope helps.

:cool:

Bill B;

I don't know if they can help you, but I do you can personally talk with the people at Talley about your question. Their phone # is posted on their website. www.talleyrings.com.

Even if they can't help, I know they'll be polite & attentive to your concerns.

Thanks for the advise and that is one concern I hadn't thought of. I don't "Need" the German optics but was thinking that since the price was right it might be good to aquire. The 56mm obj. is going to be huge but that is one bright scope ...........

Thanks for the tip about Talley! I may give them a call. :)
