I don't know that it was that great of a deal considering the condition (good deal - yes). A shop near me has a 1960s 4" Python that has about 80% of the bluing and the original (although rough) grips for $619 and it just sits there in the case.

I got a holster-worn Python last month for $500 and it is at Colt right now for a Royal Blue refinish, recut roll marks, and custom tuning. Should be back in mid-September and I can't wait.

Join the Colt Forum - I got started there when I joined to ask if I should buy the Python for $500 - the first responder offered to buy it sight unseen if I passed on it.
