I picked up a nickel Colt Python 4" in a trade and it's my first one. I have had some S&Ws and Rugers but this baby is so smooth and the lockup is incredible. I now see what the fuss is all about. Oh yeah and this baby has real elephant ivory grips as well. I was planning on selling or trading it off, but this might have found a permanent home. Anybody know where I can find icfo on when it was manufactured? It has a serial number starting with V09. Thanks

Year:1978 S/Ns:V01001 - V36736 Qty:35,736

Congrats, we need pictures though, or maybe this didn't really happen :)

Hedgemeister,
I have a '76 model 4" Python Elite. By far and away the most accurate handgun that I own.
Congrats.....sounds like you have a real classic. Now let the search begin for proper leather.(I need one too!)

For gun leather, I'd consider going to El Paso Saddlery. They make phenomenal holsters.

The Python Elite wasn't made until about 1997.

What?? Oops. I thought I looked that up ??!! I know it's an Elite.....I'll check the #'s again.

SN#....42XXXE My Python went back to Colt, and may have been re-barrelled??

<I don't want to steal Hedgemeister's thread.>

Milt Sparks makes a really nice holster that would look nice wrapped around that Python. Here is a picture with my S&W66.

You can shake it upside down and the gun won't fall out. This one is cross draw.

I wasn't impressed with them...I live about 20minutes away from them and decided to check them out for a ruger sp101. Hardly any one there spoke english so it took a while. Didn't find anything practical.

kb no worries - good luck on the research

That Milt Sparks looks nice, I'll sheck them out. I'm in AZ so I think I'll check out Simply Rugged as well.

My Python was actually given to me. It had spent several years in a cardboard box on a garage floor. (Long story) When I got it, it was in terrible condition. I sent it to Colt for....well, evaluation. For less than $400. (1999 dollars)....they re-blued, re-gripped, apparently re-barrelled, re-hammered and tuned. If you look closely, you can see the pitting on the cylinder and frame.
