Any help or info would be very appreciated. I have 357 Mag Colt nickel plated Python. I looked up ser# 10726E and believe it was made in 1975. But it has Q under the ser# which I can't fine anything about. Plus looking for a value.

The Q is likely a factory fitting stamp used to keep the parts together during assembly.

Thanks, as I went through all my books etc. and found nothing.

The Q stamp?
Quasimodo was a Quality inspector by day, and quietly climbed around the old blue dome roof at night?? :what:

PS: I'm sorry!
It was just too good a chance to pass up!!
How often do you get to use Q four times in almost the same sentence?

I have one stamped with an 'E'. Do you think Esmeralda may have worked the night shift?

Lately, I've had an itch for a Python. I did not realize they had appreciated in valve so much.

The letter stamp around the serial number is a factory inspectors stamp.
There's another inspectors stamp on the left rear web of the trigger guard.

I am looking to purchase a Python in need of help (4 bargain price, yeah, sure). I've seen decent ones on Gun Broker, Guns America & Gun Auction EXCEEDING $1k! A stainless unit, 6" barrel NIB was asking $2.5k!!

I would suggest you check these auction sites to see what the market WILL BEAR. Don't know how appraisers & sellers get their ideas for values, but so many Pythons R selling for premium dollar. I saw a rusted 4" in Florida with an 'starting' price of $680.

What U have, I'd say, is worth more than it's weight in gold.

Best of Luck.

Bought a Python back in 1981 6 inch Blued. Put maybe a 1000 rounds through it in both 38 and 357 mag. Was having trouble betting the cylinder to close. Took it to a gun shop and was told the crane was bent. Sold it for about 200$ (in 91 to pay bill after Desert Storm) I think. I am now kicking myself. Wish I had that GUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I thought the "Q" was for the quietly quivering quixotic Quetzalcoatl from quality assurance?

Snake guns will take a bite out of your wallet. They sure aren't getting any cheaper.

dogbreath,

I know of what you speak! My wife bought me one as a gift, 2 years later, I had to sell it to pay a bill. My heart still aches over that. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

I always thought "Q" was on Star Trek-Next Generation..... You know he could put his mark on anything.... oh, that was Cue.... :)

Wow. I am very disappointed in my fellow THR members. Usually you are so knowledgeable and helpful but not on this one.

The letter "Q' on a Python is one that was send to the research and development laboratory of the British Secret Service and was requisitioned by the quartermaster that outfitted the "double oo" secret agents.

As this was stamped by Q himself this could be a VERY valuable gun!!!!!
