I have been contemplating getting a fancy-nancy quad-rail handguard for my HBAR. I am a tad confused about how this all works though.
How do you mount a quad rail? Will I have to replace the front sight and gas tube too, or does it just fit right over? Is the HBAR's barrel too thick for this? I am only really familiar with A2 style handguards, when I had an M16A4 with the rails on it I couldn't figure out what was going on. Any information would be appreciated :)

They mount on the barrel nut, just like the back of standard handguards, IIRC. If you have a A2 stlye front sight, you willl have to get a rail system short enough to be behind the sight.

It should just fit right over, gas tube and bbl. Which one are you considering?

I just mounted a Daniel Defense Omega on my AR and I'm brand new to the platform. Piece of cake.

Hmm... how do you put it on kb? Is it two pieces you screw together or does it slide on over the barrel?

There are two kinds of quad rails

The two kinds mount differently.

One type replaces the stock handguards completely. Pull back the delta ring, pop out the original upper and lower handguards, and pop in the upper and lower halves of the quad. The new pieces fit right into the original handguard hardware (end cap and barrel nut, held in place by the delta ring). There are often screws to help keep the upper and lower halves together.

The other type is free floating, just like a free float handguard. Remove the flash hider, sight tower/gas block, gas tube, handguards and handguard hardware, and of course the barrel nut. The free floating quad rail comes with its own barrel nut, install the quad rail on the barrel nut and reinstall the gas tube and sight tower/gas block.
