Quality "emergency bag" on a budget?

Hello all,

So I have come to realization that my emergency preparedness is somewhat pitiful. While I carry a fairly standard first-aid kit in all my vehicles, I have no basic emergency supplies of the sort that you might need should find yourself stranded in the "wilderness" for a short period of time as the result of, say, a car accident/breakdown. So, while I am aware that there is plenty and more
literature available on the subject, I am curious to see what the knowledgable folks here might recommend for putting together a "quality", while affordable (poor college student here) emergency kit? If possible, any recommendations on specific equipment and brands would be great.
If it matters, I am educated/certified in first aid/CPR and have some very basic wilderness survival knowledge.
