You did. They're very nice guns. I have 2 (a 686 4 inch I bought used and a 686 2.5" that I bought new about two years ago). My 4 inch was lightly used and locks up very tight. I really don't like to run full house magnums through my revolvers, so I figure if it's good for lots of round of .357s, it should damn near last forever with a majority of the ammo being 158 gr. LSW.

I've had my 586 for over 15 years, and it is still as accurate as teh first time I pulled the trigger on it. Enjoy yours.

The answer is yes.
I regard the 686 as the perfect blend of features (size, accuracy, reliability, durability, ergonomics with good stocks) for a .357 magnum platform (I'm partial to the 4-inchers, though) ...

My 686-0 is a 4" as is my 586-0; both are excellent revolvers. Like others have said or implied, the L-frame S&W are a near perfect blend of strength/durability and balance coupled with a great trigger. IMO, the only thing better in a revolver is a .41 Rem Mag S&W Mod 57.

proud owner of a 17 year old 686 6". First gun I ever shot when i was 13 and ended up being the first hand gun I owned when my older brother sold it to me in March so he could fund his Bushmaster purchase. My 686 still looks and shoots as good as it did 17 years ago.

I would dare say that even without "sensible care" the gun will outlive you. Hell you can darn near abuse 686s and Ruger GP100s. Good gun to say the least.

Do, however, take sensible care. :D
