a quick search of the internet brings up about a bazzilion sets of 1911 grip panels - but I'm hoping others can chime in and give me a hand narrowing down the results a bit.

Looking for a American made company/person that makes quality grips.

Not looking for anything uber fancy. Looking for simple design, quality wood, standard dimension, checkered rosewood, or a red hued coccobolo grip. It'll be going on the new Silverback.

I know I can just go out to midway and buy a cheap set -and if there are quality ones on there - let me know. But just looking for more knowledge than I have right now.

I see houge makes some, but I am unfamiliar with houge other than the rubber stuff. also found altamont grips

about the fanciest things I've seen that I like are these I saw on ebay.

There are quite a few makers of quality grips, but I know VZ grips are widely considered top quality 1911 grips, and so are the ones from Esmerelda.
I'd start by checking their websites if only just to look, some of Esmerelda's stuff is simply spectacular.
But, me and many others here have gotten exotic wood grips from some Thai manufacturers that sell on ebay, and been very satisfied.
I've also gotten some US-made, no-name 1911 grips on ebay, both walnut and G10, that were much more economical than VZ or Esmerelda, and been very happy.

Craig Spegal makes excellent grips.

Unfortunately He always has a huge backlog of orders. I waited over 6 months for my Hi Power grips to be made.

I've gotten some great rare wood grips off of eBay. I just make sure that he/she has 100% positive ratings and then buy if I like it.

Kim Ahrends makes some very nice grips and I believe he offers rosewood in 1911 grips.

Yeah, but who the heck wants to wait SIX MONTHS just for a set of grips, especially when there's no shortage of VERY nice and reasonably priced grips around that can be at your house in 3 days?

Just ordered from Altamont after talking on the phone with them.
Going to get the Millennium wood with the ivory bond, and have it checkered. hoping it looks as sweet as I hope it does.

this is the grip:

this is the checkering pattern I added to it.

OP, what are you doing with those G10 takeoffs?
lol. I've got pm's about a dozen deep from 2 forums of people wanting to buy them off me.

I've given them all the same answer. I'll know more when I get the new grips.

I must be the only person ever to not be a fan of them. I love the way they feel. just not a fan of the way they look.

You'll wish you had those original grips with the gun if you ever decide to sell the gun.

Those G10 grips would look so nice on my Duty Black DW Valor!

I am not a fan of them either and like you I prefer walnut on a 1911 . I also like the looks of some of the VZ grips , but have never tried them .
