I have a Savage Model 12BVSS in 22-250 the thing shoots in the .4 to .5 range completely stock except for me polishing the barrel. I'm looking for a quality stock to put on the rifle that might

1. Make it a little lighter so that if I did want to take it hunting I could. At the moment it tips the scale at ~14lbs.
2. Make it more accurate, the current stock is a Pillar bedded laminate. I would prefer a Synthetic with an aluminum bedding block.
3. If it came with and adjustable length of pull and comb that would be fantastic as well. but i have been unable to find anything to match this.

I'm planing to replace the barrel with one in .260 when i burn this one out.

12bvss...

Tempest, Inc--The Savage 12BVSS is a heavy target gun. It has a target bbl. It ain't gonna ever be a light rifle no matter what you do.

For a hunting rifle, why for heavens' sake do you need greater accuracy than this--I'm assuming that this is 0.5" at 100 yd, which is 1/2 MOA, which is PLENTY accurate enough for a hunting rifle.

Now, as a target gun, you might want to augment that accuracy, but you aren't going to accomplish that with a lighter stock. And a stock with an adjustable comb and/or LOP will be a target-style stock similar to what came on the rifle. They don't make those with lightness in mind.

So, exactly how DO you propose to use this rifle? Knowing that, we might be able to make more intelligent recommendations.

When/as/if you replace the bbl, then you can make the whole rifle over into a light hunting rifle, with a minimal stock and a "pencil" bbl. But you'll probably sacrifice some accuracy in so doing.

It's a Targer Rifle

The stock it's self doesn't have adjustable comb or LOP, which are things I'd like to add. Yes those groups are at 100YDS. I use it as a target rifle, but am also looking to use it for woodchucks or coyotes. So i guess I'm hoping to use it for both, but first and foremost it's a target rifle.

Target rifle...

Tempest Inc--Are you reloading for the Savage? If so, then mebbe next step is a new stock. If not, then I'd advise putting the several hundred a really good target stock is going to set you back, into a set of reloading equipment.

The 12BVSS is a pretty darn decent rifle right out of the box. I have one in .300 WSM. A new stock might, or might not, cut your group size.

Handloads can get you half the size group you get with even high-grade store-boughten ammo. Takes time, practice, reading & study, and a good deal of futzing around, but the results are well worth it--AND, applicable to any other firearm you might wish to reload for (unlike a stock which would only go on one rifle.)

Most serious target shooters handload. One reason I mention this is the practice factor. Not wishing to be insulting, but are YOU good enough to shoot better than 1/2 MOA--which is pretty good in itself. Handloading makes the ammo cheaper, which means you can afford to practice more, which of course helps you become a better shooter, which can shrink group sizes.

Anyhow, something to consider.

Yes, I do handload...

Yes, I do handload. I was getting 1" groups with Winchester bulk white box. That was the best i would get out of anything other than my handloads. I use a single stage with a RCBS chargemaster 1500 combo powder dispenser. I throw two half loads to minimize tolerances. I weight and separate the bullets. As far as improvements for reloading I'm starting to do brass preparation (other than tumbling), and i will be getting better quality dies. This should help.

Not to blow my own horn but i have shot custom rifles and i have shot single hold groups @ 100YDS so i do believe that i should be able to get better performance if improvements to ammo and firearm are done. as well as me doing my part.

Thank You for any other assistance.
