Queen Anne

Do any of you own and shoot the Pedersoli
Queen Anne pistol? I've been thinking about
acquiring a flint pistol and was thinking this
would be a good place to start.

I don't own a Queen Anne, but did consider it before I bought the Traditions Trapper 50 cal. The Queen Anne is advertised in any number of places. $325 was about the best price I found, at Cherry's.

I had a pair of them years ago. They were neat guns - but smooth bore and no sights. Pedersoli is one of the better mfgs when it comes to quality, fit and finish. Depends on what you want them for. Personally, I would rather have one of the Pedersoli Flintlock Kentucky pistols. A lot more accurate for target shooting or back-up to a hunting long gun.

A Thing of Beauty and a Joy Forever

I own and shoot occassionaly in demos both a brass and german silver barreled ones. They are amongst the most graceful pistols made, a joy to shoot, and a pleasure to own and display. Pedersoli makes some wonderful stuff and I needed this period represented in assorted activities I'm involved in. Well, I did, and it was a great excuse. Heck, I even bought Pedersoli's display board to mount them...

I have a Queen Anne, I've had for maybe 20 years. My only problem with it is the frizzen is a bit soft and the geometry of the hammer (cock) arc doesn't make the shower of sparks I like to see in a flintlock.

Being a smoothbore and sightless, it is not a target pistol, but they were never meant to be.

I came very very very close to owning one. and posted a bit on here to get input. Overall, I would buy one, but I think i am getting a Pedersoli Flintlock Kentucky pistol instead. I am still not sure though.

I thought it might be an all around choice for a first
flintlock. You could shoot balls, shot etc. and get lots of
smoke. What would be the maximum amount of powder
you could
use in one of these? I also like the cannon shaped
barrel and think it's just a beautiful piece. Kind of
pirate-like!!!

According to the Pedersoli manual, the recommended powder charge for the Queen Anne with a .490 patched round ball ranges from 22 grains to a maximum of 35 grains.

Pistols were up close and personal weapons in the 18th century. Not much powder behind them, but at the distance of just over what a man can do with a sword lunge, or closer, they got the job done. So I'd use no more than 20 - 25 grains of BP, while the ball is a .490 in some repro models, so that's a respectable load for a pistol.

great gun for a knife fight.I like the Kentucky, better. I suppose if I were doing pirate re-enacting,my choices would be different.
