I just recently got into target rifle shooting and Im looking to get a pistol as well.(the addiction is taking over)

Im going with 9mm due to cost/availability of ammo, and a midsized frame for possible carry.

So im looking at the Taurus PT909 or PT911 in stainless steel.
They have a 1:9.84" twist rate. 115gr bullets seem to be the normal "bulk" ammo.
I cant seem to find info on what weights are good for what twist rates, so can anyone offer advice on what grain should be best, or a range of weights to stay in?

Edit: Just read a post that said 124gr was developed for 1:9.84" twist.

Good question!

I have always trusted the gun makers to offer the optimal twist rates in the handguns they offer for sale.

A 9.84" = 250 mm = 4 turns per meter is a common European twist rate for both rifle and pistol. It is faster than the short pistol bullet needs but hey, the machinery is already set up. That twist rate will handle the heaviest (longest) bullet you can get into a 9mm and more besides.

Colt autopistol barrels, 9mm, .38, and .45, are all 16" twists. They do fine.
S&W has long used an 18.75" twist for .38 Special with heavier bullets at lower velocity. They work, too.

Don't overstudy the matter. Get a gun that suits you.
