I was wondering how to take the scope mount off my AK. I have a Romanian WASR-10 that has an Eastbloc scope mount on it. Now, I also have a Saiga which I'd like to make it's acquaintance (Saiga deserves a scope, the AK doesn't). But, for some reason, I have been unable to get the scope mount off. (It's an aftermarket job).

I'm wondering about just getting a cloth, and taking a hammer to it, but I don't want to damage either the AK mount or the scope mount. Is there some sort of trick to this I just haven't mastered yet? I loosten the scope mount just fine, but the thing won't budge.

Thanks.

It should have a throw lever if it is a com-bloc scope mount. Push the lever in toward the receiver then gentlely push the lever down. There is a small piece of metal that holds the lever in place. When you push the lever down this piece of metal should clear the mount frame. Then rotate the lever to the rear towards the buttstock. Then push on the frame of the scope mount frame back towards the buttstock. I push the frame where is sits on the rail on the receiver. I also lift slightly on the mount frame if I have any trouble getting the mount to slide back. It is a tight fit so be firm but don't hammer it. Good Luck...........Mike

Are you wanting to remove a mounted scope from the rail on the AK receiver or are you wanting to remove the rail from the AK's receiver?

Thankyou FMJMike. The thing was just on really, really tight. I took lever (and retaining screw) out, and tapped backwards (towards the stock) with my palm, hard several times, and I was able to pull the thing off.

Then, I put the bad boy back together, and put it on the Saiga. Now, I just have to find a decent scope for the Saiga, and do a little range test.
