I owned a SKS up until my wife found a rifle she wanted, so me being PWCP I traded the SKS for her .243. So now I have 300 CCI #34 primers and am wondering if they can be used in a standard bolt gun. I use CCI #200 primers to load with anyway, so are the #34 primers just harder to prevent slam fires and use the same charge to ignite the powder, or are they hotter?? I am not lacking primers to reload with, I just hate to see them go to waste and would like to see them put to use.

I use the cci #34 primers in my M1 loads. I've never tried them for other cartridges even though they should work. Its just me...the M1 gets special treatment! :D

The CCI #34 primers are Magnum strength primers so if you treat them like a CCI-250 primer you will have no problems. BTW, the cup is no harder than a magnum primer, the compound is just slightly less sensitive. The fact they are magnum strength primers comes right off the CCI site.

Thanks for the info, I did not know that. I do know they specifically sell the #34 primers for semi autos to prevent slam fires, but did not know that about magnum primers. Not sure I will use them in my .308, but my father in law loads for his 300win mag with magnum primers, so I may give them to him. They will last him a long time, because he only shoots a few shots a year when confirming his zero and while in Colorado chasing elk.
