Question about mounting a holographic optic to a handgun,,,

I have a 6" Beretta NEOS with that long Weaver rail,,,
I purchased an inexpensive holographic for it,,,
I mounted the optic close to the rear sight,,,
It just seemed to be the natural place,,,
And it seems to work just fine.

Since then I have seen many pistols,,,
Where the holographic sight is mounted halfway down the barrel,,,
In some cases I've even seen the sight mounted very close to the front sight.

My Google-Fu must not be strong today,,,
I can't find a definitive answer to the proper mount position.

Do any of you USPSA shooters have any wisdom to impart?

I mention USPSA because I just watched a few videos of competition shooters,,,
It seems most of them had the holographic optic approximately midway down the barrel.

The proper spot is where you like it, and shoot it best

The red dot on my Neos is where I feel the balance and handling is best. Unlike a scope, the eye relief doesn't matter. The Neos is great for a red dot because you have a lot of mounting options to get the "feel" you prefer.

The "right" location is where it works best for you.

"inexpensive holographic" does not compute. I'd wager you have a "reflex" type red dot as opposed to a tube type. I've had much better luck with the tube types for all red dots priced under $200.

My $30 Tasco (30mm tube) from Walmart works great on my Neos and has held up for 10's of thousands of rounds.

Many "race guns" use the C-more reflex optic and it usually is on a mount that is screwed into the dust cover of the pistol frame, forcing it forward to avoid interfering with ejection.

I feel that mounting the holographic sight on your neo you should at least consider the following:

1. It should be mounted where the weight of the gun for you is well balanced.
2. It should give you a natural point of aim and great sight alignment for you.
3. It should be mounted where it will not intefere with the function of your handgun and ejection of brass.

Am I using the wrong terminology?

I have seen the reflex type sights called holographic in their advertisements,,,
Therefore I was under the impression that reflex and holographic were interchangeable terms.

Now that makes sense from a practical standpoint.
