another post on building a berm got me thinking. would it be safe to shoot into the side of a high hill if you set up a sand & tire berm on the side of it and there was a house on the top of the hill? maybe i'm being totally stupid. what if you setup some kind of angled steel to protect from ricochet?

the bottom of the hill is our property, as are most of the surroundings. some other guy owns the house atop the hill, though almost none of the land is his.

tell me if i'm being idiotic...

What size property and kind of distances are we talking?

My inclination is to say that the whole thing is a bad idea and you should set up a berm in a different location. Shooting directly toward a house, even if it is up a hill, is just asking for trouble.

Depending on the size of the property, and the angles, etc it might be possible, but I'll tell ya what - if I was the fella at the top of the hill, I'd be pretty upset at the idea of ricochets coming up the hill at my house and family.

I'm gonna go with the others, and say don't do it.

...as are most of the surroundings.

I would try real hard to find a place in the "surroundings". I'm sure it could be done and there may never be a problem but I certainly wouldn't do it.
