Question About Speer LE, Gold Dot Ammo

Question for the ammo gurus.

How can ya find out when a lot# of ammo was produced?

Reason is I ordered a case of Lawman 357 SIG 125 Grain TMJ that was new production & back ordered and instead of getting the ammo I ordered I got a case of

Speer LE Gold Dot Duty Ammunition with the 125gr GDHP, but the box it came in looked abused and misused and so did the individual 50 round boxes.

Was wondering if I could find out when lot# JO7N36 was produced & what the headstamp S means on the case

Ahhhh, but how old is the GDHP & was it from a LE trade in.

If so, then how can I know it's still good ammo or if it's been abused and not stored properly & thus traded in.

Sounds like you ordered target ammunition and received something else fr your money, so if your not satisfied with them, send them back orgo shoot them up. If any of them fail then you know you got sent some unreliable ammo.
Talk to the place you ordered from in that case.
I have never heard of ammo being traded back in for resale by any police division. They usually like to go out and shoot up lots of rounds during practice.

It is not uncommon at all for cases of factory new ammo to look like they have been to hell and back. I get cases in that are broke open, boxes missing, and boxes crushed.

The only time that I get like new looking boxes is when they come by the pallet. Thats not guaranteed either.

If you realy want to find out when it was made, contacting Speer is probly the best/only way.They may be able/willing to tell you.Personally, I'd just test out a mags worth, as I'd be 99.9% sure they were fine unless they look corroded or the boxes appear to have been under water.Also, you got a GREAT deal thereIMHO.Gold Dot is excellent SD ammo by all accounts.If it works fine in you gun, I'd keep a bunch for SD, and you could easily sell the rest and get a LOT more plinking/target ammo with the money If thats what you really wanted to begin with.Gold Dot is pretty pricey, premium SD ammo.If I had a 357 sig, I'd take a bunch off your hands for a bit under retail, and we'd both come out ahead...

Thanks for the help, I've already sent Speer an e-mail & will give em a call next week if I don't hear anything from em.

It's the old style ammo boxes, here's the only picture I found on the web of the box style and that what makes me wonder about the ammo.

FYI all my carry ammo is Double Tap Gold Dot

If I remember Speer's the date code correctly, and I may not, the first letter is the month and the second letter is the year.

Lot J07N36 should be Sep (J) 07 (N)
