1000 rounds of Speer Gold Dot +P 124 gr 9mm from Ammoman.com.

Total was $159 shipping included.

I heard this Speer Gold Dot was pretty good stuff.

Will try it out.

Any opinions on this ammo, or this price?

If it's in a cardboard box and not individual boxes, then it's reclassified.
It's not reloaded, it's recalled. It's not for LEO sales.

It's been so long ago, but I remember it had something to do with the primers.
I have fired a ton of it in my 9mm's, but I won't use any of it for personal protection.

If that's what you bought if for, i'm sorry. It does make good practice ammo though.

I did some research.

It's not bad primers or no primers.

It's non-LEO spec primers.

So,...

Well, I bought 2,500 rounds of it a while back and don't think I've had any ammo-related problems at all. Definately no misfires or slow fires.

But I've been told from several sources that the reclassified Gold Dots have diffrent primers mixed in... Some are standard and some may be hard. Guns with positive ignition systems should pretty much never have a problem with either primers but if there is even a 0.000001% risk, there's no reason to risk carrying said ammo. So, buy the cheap stuff for practice and carry boxed ammo. Or look into Georgia Arms ammo if you're buying in bulk.

Speer GDHP 124gr +P has been my carry ammo ever since I bought my first 9mm. I only fire it, however, when the ammo begins to get tarnished and I feel I should replace it. This usually takes two years. I have never had a failure to fire with the 50-round commercial boxes, although I've only gone through about 200 rounds of it.

I don't think I'd trust those bulk boxes for concealed carry. It has to be that cheap for a reason, right?

I'm going to shoot the 1K Speer GD I get from this order, and tell you how many misfires I get.

I bought 750rds of this stuff from outdroomarksman.com a while back when they still had it for $29.90 a box. All together my 1000rd order was $135.97 shipped, but, they raised the price to $34.90 for each of the boxes since the supply is drying up.

I have not experienced a single malfunction with this ammo, so, it is, and will continue to be, my chosen carry ammo.

Do I have enough commas in that sentence? :scrutiny:

Most of my carry 9mms are full of 124 gr. +p Gold Dots. I've also fired several boxes of the reclassified stuff for practice. I've never had a malfunction with any of it, but I only carry non-reclassified Gold Dots.

Gold Dots have always performed very well in my own informal backyard testing.

1 in 50,000 malfunction rate? I have 47,000 to go then. I love this stuff. My chrono tests are showing the 180 .40s to be fairly hot. The 124 +P are one of the more accurate loads in my 9s.

Well, I bought 1000 rounds of this stuff, and I don't know what the problem is - but I've gotten simply horrible accuracy out of it.

It functions well, but it gives completely inconsistent groupings... like 5 - 6 inches at 15 yards. And this is out of tack-driving pistols like my HK P7M8, SIG 226, and pre-B series CZ75. A friend of mine suffers the exact same problem when he shoots it out of his SIG 239.

A magazine full of store bought 124 gr. +P (and non +P) Gold Dot gives me half-dollar sized groups, but the next mag full of the reclassified stuff is literally all over the paper. Another magazine full of regular Gold Dot, and all is back to normal.

I have no idea what's causing it - but it sure is spooky. It's not even any fun to just blast away with, because it's so dreadfully inaccurate for me.

I must have gotten a REALLY bad batch of it.

I love the Gold Dot bullet.

I usually buy Black Hills Ammunition for my personal protection ammo.

They offer a Gold Dot JHP 124 gr +P load thats a tad bit hotter than the factory Speer ammo.

Speer Ammo 1220 fps @410 lbs of energy (website)

Black Hills ammo 1250 fps @ 430 lbs of energy (website)

I havent had any problems quality wise from Black Hills. You can get it thru MidwayUSA.

I don't see how accuracy could possibly be dramatically effected by primers, but I've seen negligable difference between the reclassified stuff, standard Speer Gold Dots and Georgia Arms Gold Dots while shoothing through many different 9mms ranging from a G19 to a CZ PCR to a Kahr P9 Covert to a Taurus PT99...

Again, to potential readers of this thread, I'd buy with confidence, but would carry something different.
