I just went to my local police department to fill out and turn in my application. I thought I was going to be able to get it turned in today, because I am unable to make it there next week, and Im would like to get it ASAP. Well the dispatcher just handed me the paperwork and told me to bring back exact change when I came back. I asked if I could fill it out in the office, and she said sure I could, but I would be unable to get fingerprinted due to them being short on staff. This is a small town, and there were two officers standing around shooting the breeze, but then I remembered I just so happened to have a set of my fingerprints with me which were done at the same station from when I had to submit an appeal because of a denial of purchase back in August. Well she wouldnt take those, and couldnt even make up a bad excuse. I personally think its because its a nice day and Friday, but was only 2:30 in the afternoon, and I know she works til 6. First is it a bad idea to follow through with my plan which is to call whatever office the application goes to and ask them if they'll accept these prints. My goal is to either go back and tell her I talked to such and such and they said these prints are fine, or change my attitude about the encounter by verifying that there is definable line between acceptable and unacceptable finger print cards. I will note that the fingerprint card I have, is the same one I initially sent to the FBI, then they returned it, then I resubmitted it to the FBI again to be entered into my VAF file, which was only a couple weeks ago, and they returned it once again to me. I guess Im a little ticket off that Ive waited 8 months because the state of WA entered someone elses charges under my name by mistake, to finally buy a pistol, I rush to get my CPL paperwork turned in, but stonewalled again for another week or more because I ll wont have the time next week :cuss:

I can see how they would want to retake your fingerprints. They would have no idea what alterations you might have made.
Snohomish County has a new electronic fingerprinter. No muss no fuss.

The only way you may be able to speed things up is to hire an attorney well versed in these matters. Most of them will probably tell you though, if you've already started this on your own, you'll be better off waiting it out before starting again with a lawyer. Patience is definitely required when dealing with mistaken identity, VAF and denials, otherwise :banghead:

Realize that they are about as likely to accept a fingerprint card that you bring in as they would let you bring a urine sample from home for a drug test.

Also there currently is a lot of "unhappiness" in local police departments concerning CPL applications. It's not because they are "anti-gun" but more because they don't like the fact that the State has mandated that they process the paperwork, but the State won't reimburse them for the costs involved. (The money you pay goes to the State, not local law enforcement.)
I know our local CLEO is still processing but feels that as the CPL is a State license, just like your DL, Plates, etc., the State Licensing Offices should do the processing.
Maybe things will get better when the layoffs and economy reverses.......

How far are you from the county seat? Just go to the Sheriff's dept. Maybe call them first to make sure they don't have some specific times they do the applications. I think all the Sheriff's have the electronic fingerprinting scanner.

I live outside a very small town in North Central WA. The police department here makes no bones about it. "We don't have to equipment to scan the fingerprints, so we have everyone go to the county"

I think the electronic fingerprints make it quicker too. You do not need a CPL to purchase a pistol, or even to open carry it. You only need the CPL to carry loaded in a vehicle.

Thanks for the comments. my mission is accomplished. Thirty days until it show up in the mail.

Wow.. what a run around, I have to renew my CPL, goes like this..

Me "Hey Marshal, I need to renew my CPL"
Marshal "Just swing by my house with the $$ and paper work"
Me "That it?"
Marshal "Yes, I'll drop it by your house later, or you can swing by my place"

My daughter and his daughter are in the same Kindergarten class!

For my original I was fingerprinted by my coworkers brother at the Sheriffs dept. electronic machine was hosed so it was done old school...
