Questions about CCW & fingerprints

I was looking up CCW requirements for eight states at www.packing.org. Each of them required fingerprints as part of the application process.

Though I am not a criminal, I do not like the idea of submitting fingerprints due to privacy concerns. So here are my questions:

1. If the prints are taken the old-fashioned way (ink and paper), are the prints returned to you after you receive the permit?

2. If the prints are taken the old-fashioned way (ink and paper), are they digitized?

3. Will the prints be added to a criminal database?

As a military veteran, my prints were already on file somewhere. I have been fingerprinted for CCWs in three states, and in none of them was the print card returned to me. I assume they send them to the FBI to be checked against a national database, which will first tell them if they know who you are, and secondly will then tell them if you have a criminal record.

If you have never been fingerprinted before, I would guess you certainly will be added to the national database, but it won't be a "criminal" database.

CCW/CHP Fingerprinting

I just had my prints taken for my Oregon CHP last week....and then used a snazzy electronic/digitizing machine to take the prints...and a separate machine to capture my picture, info, and signature.


The prints will then be sent electronically to the FBI for background check and for retention...

I found the machine quite an improvement over the old ink method....much better quality prints...and having them digitized facilitates ease of access, etc....

Anyone with military background and some federal jobs will have been fingerprinted.
Privacy..... ummm what country are you in again?
As mentioned, the prints are archived for future reference. Personally I can't see an issue with it. The Gov already has access to 90% of your personal info.

AZ CCW permission slip requires fingerprints... has anyone heard of folks--law-abiding folks, I figure that some criminals might have tried this--trying to damage/alter their fingerprints prior to them getting taken to effectively get out of the ridiculous unconstitutional databases that such things are fed into? Or are the takers just going to say: "Heal up and come back next week?"

Interesting. Is there any state that doesn’t fingerprint you as part of the CCW permit process?

Maine at least.

They may require that you submit a fingerprint card. I assume they will if you aren't in the database.
