Question about X-Treme Bullets

I don't think you can push a plated bullet to rifle velocities. 1200fps seems to be their practical limit.

They make only one jacketed bullet, and that's their .223.

The problem is that to use a bullet in a tubular MAG there should be a canalure to crimp into. These bullets have a thicker than normal plating but would be problematic if you cut the plating while adding the required heavy crimp. I have used them in other applications where 150 grain 308 bullets under 1200 FPS are required with good results but I did not need to crimp them however. X-Treme bullets are good quality plated bullets for sure. I use a metric buttload of their 230 grain RN 45 ACP bullets each year.
I would stick to the RN or flat point bullets that Hornaday, Speer or Remington make specifically for the 30-30. I prefer the 170 grain ones with IMR 3031 myself and those tend to be more often in stock.

They work fine in a .30-30 and are fun to shoot.

I use 19 grains of IMR 4198 or 10 grains of Alliant 2400 and set the Lee factory crimp die so it just barely kisses the case.

I don't have any problem with the bullets getting pushed back into the case, probably because the recoil is so low.

That depends on what your intending on using them for. They have a speed limit of 1200 fps. They are for Cowboy action shooting as far as I can see.

If you want to load them to mid range jacketed data as they describe their plated pistol bullets can be loaded for, your out of luck. 30-30 midrange jacketed offering would tear one of those bullets a new one.

I found nothing on their web site saying that the .308 plated were even thick plate that would give them a speed limit of 1500fps.

If your going to download them for the 30-30's original black powder loadings for Cowboy Action Shooting, they would work fine.

Thank you all. I don't plan on pushing them to full velocity, I just want to use them for easy, casual shooting.

I didn't know if I'd have to trim my brass differently or anything. They have a flat nose so I figured they'd be okay to load in the magazine.

I'm not sure they would be being their is no cannulure to crimp into. I would definitely call Extreme and ask them or work with Tech Ninja on how he loaded his. I'm assuming your talking about a tube magazine.

The bullet has a big flat tip, I just used 2.50 OAL (2.550 max) so the cartridges would feed without hanging up. And just barely crimp them with a Lee factory crimp die.

Shoots great.

At roughly 1850 FPS in my 300 BLK they were wildly inaccurate. I am not sure what speed they can take.

I have shot them in the 1800fps range out of a 30-30 using IMR 3031. I used a redding 30-30 taper crimp die to crimp them. They shot well, but I chambered the first and only put 2 in the tube.

I'm having lots of fun with these bullets, using 12 grains of IMR 4227. Very light loads, but accurate and cheap in my Marlin 336. Try them!
