As I was following @GeoDudeFlorida’s suggestion to look harder and I’d find free bullets :), I discovered X-treme has changed the bullet diameter as noted in the subject line.

Just thought it was interesting and y’all might find it interesting too.

Attached picture of box I have lying around. Their website shows new size

Maybe the diameter of the 230gr plated RNs changed on their website, I don’t remember what it used to say, but I’ve been shooting them for years and they have always measured out at .452-.4525.

.452 is what I always use in my cast bullets. I would use the .452 jacketed bullets too, you may find that they may shoot more accurately as it will engage the rifling better.

@CQB45ACP thanks for the info. By any chance have you detected any differences with the newer diameter?
Blue Bullets sizes their .45 to .451 and as far as I know sells more than a ton of them. They seem to fly ok, and I was considering ordering some from Bayou since they’ll size them to whatever you want.
I get the concept of obturate, but it sounds like a myth busting thread to determine if and how many .001”s really make a difference. Perhaps it’s also a function of caliber and operating pressure as well. I tried with 9mm at various +.001s but only noted a slight Vavg increase and no discernible precision increase.

I agree with what you all say but obviously I wasn’t clear in the purpose of my post...
I was just observing, announcing, alerting, that without so much as a brief explanation to the consumer, Xtreme changed the size of their bullets.
Have you noticed any difference in performance?

Haven’t bought any.

They also changed the profile of their 100gr. .355" RNFP for the .380. It's a little "rounder," changing the required seating depth. I can now seat them to the suggested 0.950"

OTL Imports was selling post-bankruptcy NOS from X-Treme at 2017 prices up until a couple of weeks ago. I snagged 2K of the 100gr. .355" RNFP but they were from different lots and that's how I noticed the ogive is changed. I have to be careful not to mix them.

If you do, check the concentricity. I have come across X-Treme's that were up to 0.001" out of round. A trip through the Lee sizer takes care of it but it can play havoc on trying to get a finished cartridge to seat properly in a checker. My Remington-Rand 1911-A1 US Army issue will eat them like candy on Halloween but my Auto-Ordnance 1911A1 won't quite close without a bump every once in a while and an out-of-round X-Treme 200gr. is almost always the culprit.

Thanks for the heads up. I had that problem with a batch of Missouri 230gr RN once and got into the habit (bad or good I can’t say) of sizing all lead coated. I did check with xtreme last week and they said sizing down from .452 to .451 was okay. So now I’ll size everything. Geesh!

That's why Lee makes the APP ;)

I’m wondering now if they didn’t change the size a longer while back but kept using the old boxes—it could explain some shaving issues I was having he wondered to himself.
If you bought them after June of 2018 or between June 2018 and November 2019, they were post-bankruptcy production and before Dan Kash (Kash CA Inc.) took ownership. Some of the production during that time frame appears "spotty." Which explains the discount pricing, BTW. ;)
