Question: Buying from a private owner at gun show or elsewhere.

Is there a way to check if the firearm is stolen etcetera, from a private sale before purchase?

I have seen some good deals in the local paper, and have thought about buying some off of private sellers that show up at the gun show trying to sell there guns there but don't have any idea it they might be "stolen goods".

Has anyone had any experience with this?

local PD can check, but so long as you maintain some proof that you purchased it you should be fine
