I'm travelling to NC tomorrow morning (Sunday) for my grandmother's memorial service. I have a valid SC CWP which NC recognizes.

I'd like to legally carry in my car, but am not sure what NC considers legal.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks!

With a valid concealed permit that is recognized by the state of North Carolina, you are okay transporting in your car whether it be on your person or stored away. The problem with transporting in a vehicle is if you do not have a concealed carry permit.

Go to the North Carolina Attorney General's FAQ on Firearms Laws for more information. Here is a quote, taken from section III. C., which speaks to carrying concealed without authorization. Since SC is in reciprocal agreement with NC, your SC permit is your authorization to carry in your vehicle.

"Given this general prohibition of carrying concealed weapons, individuals must be ever vigilant to ensure that their particular situation cannot be construed as concealing a weapon either on or about them without being properly authorized to do so with a valid North Carolina or recognized out of state concealed handgun permit."

I live right near the line, and before concealed weapon permit reciprocation, I would just take it from my console in SC and put it on my seat in NC. Kind of strange isn't it? NC did not want the weapon concealed, and it had to be in plain site.
