I work in a hospital in South Carolina and peruse the Guns & Rifles section of "The Carolina Trader." Don't know why...seems like used guns & rifles are more valuable than new ones in South Carolina.

Springfield M1 Garand...CMP...$1000. That is NOT the wildest price.

What's up with that? Are there really that many unwary, unknowing buyers in SC?

gun prices are nuts in SC. unless you are buying from an individual or a pawnshop that is into a gun for nothing your better off buying from an auction site and having it shipped to an FFL.
only problem is that after about 5 or 6 transfers most FFL's get tired of you buying cheaper elsewere and want to raise the fee or complicate matters in someother way.
i had one tell me that they would no longer accept a handgun or longgun from individuals who were not FFL's. i didnt argue the point i just havent been back.

heck, they get almost 1000 dollars for used S&W m41's down here. Back in Massachusetts, they were about $500

Yes, gun prices in SC are ridiculous. If you want something, go to Marineau Gunworks in West Columbia. He'll transfer a gun for $25. He's a gunsmith and not a stocking dealer so he'd love to transfer stuff 5 or 6 times - or even 50. He won't complain, he makes $25 for logging in some stuff and calling NICS. He's also a real cool guy.

Shooter's Choice and Palmetto Firearms will work with you on price, especially if they know you'll go to Marineau and get one transferred. I'll pay a little more to get something from a dealer, but no more than $30-35. The guys at the shops know this, and they're pretty straight with me nowadays. If they can't get it under the price I want, I walk out with no hard feelings. Everybody's gotta make a living, after all.
