Back when I used to shoot metallic handgun in competition, there were a few bolt-action pistols used. (I shot a Contender in 7mm TC/U). Most seemed to be the XP-100 or based on it. But one thing I cannot recall is if a right-hand shooter would use a left-hand action normally (i.e. the bolt handle is on the left side).

I am thinking for right-handers, the bolt handle was on the left to ease loading the next round, and to allow the shooting arm to remain in position. But a lot of photos I see of just the pistol show an obvious right-hand stock with the bolt handle on the right side. So ... I wonder if my memory was right.

A right hand shooter used a bolt on the right side of the gun . You would reach accross w/ the left hand & operate the bolt . This allowed the shooter to reload the single shot without ever changing his/ her grip thereby maintaining a consistant grip [crucial to accuracy] .

OK, thanks, I must have remembered incorrectly then. I generally liked the looks of that pistol except for the Nylon 66 looking stock with the white diamond. Seems most of the guys put wooden stocks on them.

Having owned an XP in 7mmBR, it was great for those of us who are LH. Other makers made ones with the bolt on the RH side. That was one SCARY accurate pistol with the right load

I recall a number of custom stocked XP100s for left hand shooters. Being left handed, I considered getting one with custom wood for myself, because of the convenience of the bolt.

I do not recall seeing any XP100s with left hand bolts and I do remember seeing several right handers with XP100s having to reach over the top of the gun with their left hand to work the action.

Being left handed, I considered getting an XP100 with custom wood for myself, because of the convenience of the bolt. But I went with a T/C instead.

Yeah, maybe the guy I saw shooting a left-hand version made his own pistol. Seriously. There were guys there like that. One guy made an entire revolver. And another guy made a .50 cal bolt action rifle starting with just an aircraft barrel.

The Wichita Arms and the Savage pistols both had bolt handles on the left. The Remington and the Weatherby had bolt handles on the right. While the terms "left hand" and "right hand" actions carried over from their rifle ancestry, (the Remington XP-100 action comes from their Model 600 carbine), in a pistol it really is the opposite.

You could build one with a savage target receiver that's right side bolt but you have ejection and loading options and has a 2.5lb to 6oz trigger in the target action. The bolts have changeable bolt face for different cartridge base's.

Then buy a new , custom or take off barrel and have it cut and crowned for your needs. and a Striker stock from your favorite makers.
