I understand that the same Garand clips that work for 30.06 cartridge will work for the .308 as well. Is that correct?

I'm certainly no expert but the Garand "clips" are called "enblocs" and as Rusty indicated, they will hold the .308 rounds. It's certainly a cheaper way to shoot the Garand. Those 30.06 rounds are getting expensive!!

Glad to be aboard the new forum and seeing so familiary "faces".

Same clip is used for both rounds.
The magazine block that is installed in some Garands that have been converted to 7.62 NATO/.308 are to prevent the inadvertant loading of 30-06 ammo. The enbloc clips only fit in the magazine in one location, they wont lock into the rifle if not positioned properly. Actually they may not even enter the magazine well if not located properly.
Wait a minute....
OK I'm back. I just pulled one of my Garands out of the safe and tried to put a clip of 308 ammo in any way but right. It's a no-go on that one. The mag block is purely to prevent loading 30-06 in a 308 chambered rifle.
Hope this helps.
BTW, the mag block goes in the front of the mag well, not the back.

Newbies Make Note...

this is one case where the item really is a "clip" and not a "magazine".

Those clips also work for:

Garands I have seen chambered in:

.35 Whelen
8mm-06
8mm Mauser
.270 Winchester
.280 Remington
.25-06 Remington
.244/6mm Remington
.243 Winchester
7mm-08 Remington
6.5-08 (.260 Remington)

and so forth. Haven't seen one chambered in anything smaller than 6mm bore yet. ;)
