This may be a bit obvious and I feel silly asking... As a newcomer to the handgun world, I decided to take beginner handgun courses and signed up for classes in March. But while reading up on it, I noticed that the NRA also offers "First Steps" courses designed for the beginner, now I am a bit confused. Is the "NRA Basic Pistol classes" good for a from-scratch beginner, or should I be looking for something else?

I teach the NRA Basic Pistol Class and you are just fine starting there I have had many people fire their first handgun in that class. Good Luck.

First of all, welcome to the world of handguns. The NRA Basic Pistol Course IMHO, is one of my "musts" for folks who are looking to get into owning a handgun and have never handled them before.

In this class, you will learn the basics from the parts of a handgun and revolver, to grip, stance, caliber selection, etc.

I think you are smart to be taking these classes and from there many states (like VA) deem that enough to get a Concealed Handgun Permit.

Good luck and let us know what you think!
