Hello High Road,
The old man and I are about to do some re-allocating of guns. We've come to the realization that the .22-250 we bought with the intent of going out to the Dakotas to prarie dog hunt with has become a safe-queen. It's a 700 VS .22-250 and is in great condition. The problem is that its just not getting the use that we'd like to get out of it as we're all working these days and its more of a niche gun than we need at this point. Anyway, to get to my point, I'm curious as to what we should be looking for as a sale price as a package or parted out.

We have:

Remington R700 VS .22-250
approx 4-5 years old, 90%+ condition. Spiderweb grey over black stock. Heavy barrell

Leupold - VXIII 4-12x40
great scope, debating on keeping it to put on top of a AR upper for varminting (yes, I know, getting rid of a great Varmint gun for a chance on one that might work almost as well)

I believe its a harris bi-pod, I'm not a huge fan of it, because it's shortest length is very long.

We're going to trade it in on a AR with a .223 upper and a .22LR upper. I need advice, and I need value estimations.

Pics to follow as soon as I can get to his place to snap some pictures.

Thanks High Road!

I assume the rifle cost you somewhere in the $800 range brand new, and about $400 on the scope (BTW, I don't believe the 4-12x 40mm was offered in VX-III, but only VX-I and VX-II).

I would probably be willing to pay a max of $600 for the rifle itself in like-new condition, $900 tops with the scope.

If you can trade it for an AR with two uppers, you've definitely come out ahead.

Thought Remington only made the VS for a few years(1998-2000)? I could be wrong.... The combo should get ya 900-1000.

I look at it this way, the VS is nothing more than a SPS Varmint, with a jeweled bolt, and a HS Precision stock. Easily costing someone $800 to replicate with todays money, the scope should get you $400 in the used market.

Love my 22-250 VS, almost like what you have but a VarixIII 6.5-20X50 on top....Paid $1000 for it including 50 reloads, 100 cases, 100 Nosler 55gr balistic tip bullets.

Looks to be almost the exact same gun. I was going off of memory so it may well be. The really important thing here is that I had a great conversation with dad about how there's no reason to get rid of a gun that shoots well...so instead of a trade, we just added to the collection. We're both just now getting into the idea of having an AR around, so we got the M&P15-22....looking forward to shooting it
