First time AR buyer .22 lr upper vs .22 rifle

DO NOT sell your other rifle to buy an upper. If you can't afford an upper right now, save up and buy one in the future.

I don't know much about 22lr conversions and uppers, but honestly, the conversion shooting "dirty" isn't a very good reason not to get one. ARs are fairly dirty in the first place, but you should clean it regularly anyhow; my buddy cleaned his M16 3 times a day when he was in Iraq. I do know that the proper twist for 22lr is 1-12, which means standard AR barrels will over-twist 22lr.

Model 1 is back ordered they don't when when they will get the Ciener kits.

3-6 months apparently. Any other links or suggestions for a .22 upper?

Edit. Should read 3-6 weeks. My wife got the info wrong.

I've contemplated selling the 572 to offset some of the cost of the AR .22 upper.

My advice, listen to yourself.

The Remington 572 was given to me by my dad and I'd hate to see it go.

That rifle will continue to mean more and more to you as time goes on. If there is any other way, don't sell that rifle. I would bet you will thank yourself down the line.

just get both and enjoy being able to afford ammo. That way you can shoot all day for just a few dollars (cheaper then 223)

Yeah, I think you can save some money. It should pay for itself after 2k rounds.

So it will "pay for itself" in the first week.:)

Hmmm.... I wonder if Model 1 will sell an upper sans bolt assembly and charging handle, like a 5.56... And for how much...

They probably have a bunch of them on the shelf right now.
