I was wanting to know how colts nickel finish would hold up to every day summer carry. I am wanting to get a snubbie to carry in the summer but want something different and was thinking of getting a colt lawman mkIII.

This is kind of a hijack of my own thread but can anyone tell me how much bigger the lawman is that smith and wesson 36. None of the gun shops around here ever have colts so i have never been able to put my hands on one.

As I see them and compare sizes, the Colt Lawman is in the S&W L-frame and an S&W K-frame ballpark.....so, it is definitely larger frame than an S&W J frame (M36).......

The Lawman is a great deal bigger than a 36. I'll bet it weighs almost twice as much as one. FWIW, here is a Lawman beside a SP101.

Thanks for the info guys. From the pic it looks like the lawman is a lot bigger than the sp101 which is a big gun. Shew now i am torn again. I just wanna get a colt snubbie to carry in the summer but want something thats easy to carry.

I have a 642 smith but i really would like to have a pony to carry.

That Colt isn't that much bigger, I carry an SP101 3 1/16" everyday, don't even know its there. I have a pancake type holster, can sit, drive, whatever, like I said, never know its there.

Is the detectives special comparable to a j frame. And what about the cobra? how big is it? Sorry for these questions but i am 27 yrs old so i wasnt around when most of these were made and i have no place to hold one.

The Detective Special and the Cobra would be a little bigger than the M36 but not a lot. The Colts have 6 shots as opposed to the M36's 5. IIRC the Cobra is lighter than the DS as I think it has an aluminum frame? Then there is the Colt Agent. Can't remember much about it though. I'm gettin old!

The Lawman is a .357 magnum and is considerably larger and heavier. As OldCavSoldier mentioned above. It's like a Trooper without the adjustable sights.

The Detective Special is a steel framed gun. The Cobra and Agent are the same guns in alloy. The difference in the later generation guns is the Cobra is glossy black and the Agent is a cheapo matte finish. They are a pleasure to carry.

There's one of each model in this pic:

Ham,

The Colt is a good bit bigger than the SP. There is a lot more frame/cylinder there...I also use a pancake everyday. I choose to fill it with the SP over the Colt due to the size difference.
